NEW Euro-Reef - Broken in 20 minutes!

AFAIK, Eheim, Aquabee also use ceramic shafts. I wonder if this issue is limited to the Sedra based pumps. Any reports of failures on the Gen-X (SP4, SP5) pumps?

I can say the quality of materials and construction of my RS250 is very good. No complaints at all no matter where it was manufactured. The Gen-X based SP5 pump with the ER impeller is working great. Bubble production is awesome.

Yup.

This thread is going off track. Euro Reef is still an excellent skimmer to buy for any reef.

PITSTOP you should have directly emailed Euro Reef to get the replacement part on its way, there was no need to post on here if they took care of your problems.

Now since there was one problem part everybody is jumping on the "Euro Reef is poor this and that bandwagon."

I think she wasn't getting a response from ER was why she posted this thread. But then she receivied immediate attention. :D I could be wrong. Also, she's looking for information about this pump and shaft and if others are experiencing the same problem.

So, there's an obvious issue involving these pumps that no one would know about if they followed that line of thinking!

I for one am glad to hear both the good and bad about companies' products and services. It allows me to make informed decisions.;)

What's the big deal with discussing about the pump issues and possible solutions to said problems?

To my knowledge ER do make very good skimmers. BUT they don't make the pumps so ....

I find it amusing that every time something even slightly negative is said on RC about ER or Deltec, someone always jump in with the "flag waving" routine.

 :lmao: so funny! :D but amusing, don't you think. we probably should get back on track with this thread and the pumps and shafts.

geckofrog: "I left a message at Euro Reef, yet to hear back from them. Any of you have a contact at Euro-Reef that can get me a replacement impeller ASAP? Is the pump bad or just the impeller?"

Which part of this was bashing Euro-Reef? I always go to RC for help with these kinds of issues.

I am still a big fan of Euro-Reef....especially when the skimmer is operational ;-)

It did not sound to me like he was "bashing EuroReef". He just stated that he had a brand new skimmer that broke immediately and was wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences with the new and improved ER skimmers. Big deal.
ER should make it right if they are getting lots of complaints and broken pump pieces. You might even ask how long the warranty period is on the poorly designed pump. I dont think that the problem is really fixed if you just replace the broken shaft. What caused the shaft to break in the first place? Hmmmm... That is what I would ask/find out.
Good luck. :)

MimicTang - I agree 100% - I support USA companies - that is why I bought THREE skimmers from Euro-Reef - CS100, RS135, and RC250.

I hope this is enough proof regarding my positive support for Euro-Reef and their products - I was very suprised by the instant breakage of my new skimmer pump...

This is what I meant.

dhnguyen have you ever owned a ER?

I just know though that people will read this thread and come to the conclusion that "ohh Euro Reef is junk", etc. And as a firm lover of ER's products I don't want this to happen. I just would have handled it differently then PITSTOP did :)

ER does need to address the pump issue though. That worries me.

Anyways PITSTOP when does your parts come in? You going to post updates for us that own ER's?

It is unrealistic to not expect some problems. It is amazing that there a couple of issues and the blanket statement briggade say's they still haven't gotten it right. Tough Crowd.

Problems are expected, not calling customers back isnt.

If I did that at work, I'd lose my job.

Why is this even relevant? I never said ER skimmers weren't good.

I owned and drove a BMW at one point too and although I loved the car, I wouldn't jump up and down in a fit if someone was to "put it down" per se.

It's very relevant. You've never owned a Euro Reef.

I find it amusing that you say things about ER and never have owned them form your own opinions.

I know you already have an opinion on them, and deltec for that matter. This is why you don't own one.

My opinion is they are expensive that's it. I never said they weren't good skimmers.

I don't own nor operate an ER or a Deltec but I bet you that I know more about its construction and specs than you would. Some of us like to research A LOT and educate ourselves before we spend our hard earned dollar on a piece of equipment rather than blindly following what the rest of the herd is doing.

Can you dispute anything I have stated as not being facts?

*on a lighter note*

"No but I did stay at the Holliday Inn Express last night..."

Now lets get back on topic.

I really don't know why pump manufacturers keep using ceramic shafts other than for cost cutting. Ceramic shafts break so easily and I can see why these problems happen. Infact I replaced the ceramic shaft on my OceanRunner pump with a carbon fiber rod and have not had any problems ever since.

I think you should make carbon fiber ones OEM's for every pump.

I'll be the first to buy one.lol
