New Firmware released

Hi Nick,

You will find that all GHL firmware and software gets launched as Beta but I do not remember a time where it was found with a real bug. Due to the massive user base if anything came to light it would be recorded within a few days of launch.

If you download the firmware after a few days of launch you can pretty much be sure its no longer Beta, but always check the support forums under downloads for any reports or updates.

Updating tonight :)
Thanks again Michael
Mike

Hey Mike,
How did your update go? After almost two weeks of the official announcement, I updated mine last night from 5.10 to 5.11 including my PC software. After the successful install, I checked out the new feature "dynamic temperature". Don't really know what it is and the advantage of it and how it can benefit me, I left it alone. Everything else is there so I thought it went smoothly.

This morning, I turned on my phone and go to the profilux(remote access). I noticed the "Console" page is in German. I then clicked on the "PH setting" and nothing was populated. Same for temperature and conductivity. Went back to "Console" and tried to turn on/off the switches and nothing worked! Sh*t! This is not good! I turned on my PC and checked the setting and everything is there and in English and I even turned off and then turned on the profilux. Still couldnn't do anything in the profilux webpage.
I went back and downloaded 5.10 and PC5.10. Everything is working normal now. I'm so relieved that I was able to downgrade the firmware. I know how well electronic devices these days don't allow firmware downgrade.
This is why I hate and almost never use "BETA" software!

Hi Nick,

Globally there are no other reports of this, please can you post your concerns on the support forum so they can look into your personal case thanks ;)

Two more have reported the same problem with 5.11. I'm sure there's more. Either people don't use the remote access or don't have it set up. If you don't have it set up, there's no way to tell there's a bug in the software because everything is working fine until you get to the controller webpage.

Interesting, and you are right very few do use the remote access, in fact it was only a few levels back it was re introduced.

It is interesting also not everyone is suffering from it reading the thread so could be browser related but I know as always GHL will look into it.

Personally I am not a fan of webserver access, GHL has way too many variables for ANY controller webserver to handle and I love to have control of my system fully when away so I log on using profiLux control its just like sitting next to the controller, it was invaluable when I was in the UK and a snail tripped my overflow sensor.

Michael,
A smartphone is much easy to carry around than a laptop. ;)
Remote access via the webserver is important for me. Cellular data is available almost everywhere across the globe. I use my smartphone much more than I turn on my laptop.

Will see how this plays out. For now, 5.10 keeps me pretty happy. I'm just glad I'm not the only crazy guy with the problem.

Interesting you say that as when GHL launched PLC6 there was a huge drive to go back to the old format everyone loved it across the globe, easy to navigate and well constructed.

Based on user feedback I dont think you will see a large change soon, why change whats not broken? However you will see constant improevements as always and more features.

Take into account also its FREE.

I had the exact same problem, had to downgrade to 5.10, lesson learned...wait for the final!

It was quite a surprise when I was away on business and my Iphone App couldn't connect....

I had no issues at all, but then I dont rely on iphones i use the PLC software remotely when away, never fails and have 100% tank control.

FYi - If you have any feedback in regards to software or firmware updates, please post it on the support forum as NOBODY from GHL will see the feedback here on RC. Feedback is important but only any use if the developers see it ;)

Michael,
You keep pointing out the firmware and support is free with GHL. But isn't this part of what we paid for? Which company would charge for a firmware upgrade?
Also, the laptop is great. Yes! It works all the time and it should. However, if I get an alarm email in the middle of nowhere or out doing stuff, a laptop isn't always by my side. My phone is. And this is the main selling point of any remote accessible controller. If you break this, there's a problem.

???

No the software and firmware is free, there is no "hidden cost" in a Profilux purchase for such a thing, another comparible controller manufacturer charges around $70+ for their software.

So no its not part of the price you are paying its free, and free for life ;)

Support - that should be free with any company, and GHL is no different.

Can you point me in the right direction on how to use the PLC software remotely?

I just wanted to post of RC, so people would be aware that there are definite bugs with the new firmware, and if you rely on remote access, then 5.11 Beta is not for you. I posted my issues on the GHL forum.

You need to put your ProfiLux on the putside of your router so it can be found from external Pc's natually it is all password protected.

You then find the IP address of your home network and enter this in the TCIP connection tab then click connect, your pin window will come up, enter your pin and you will have 100% access to ALL GHL through PLC.

It is best to have a static IP address.

For further set up of this, pm Gareth he will guide you through.

I can set this up tonight and put a tutorial on my review thread. This might come in handy just in case my phone is dead and I have my laptop with me.
More way to access the controller when you're not around is better IMO.

Hi Nick,
That would be awesome thanks buddy :)

Once up I will make a how to thread which will be sticky that will have all user help threads in it linked.
