Curing the rock, or the tank cycle more or less. Some do it out side the tank in brute or other containers. I'm assuming (maybe incorrectly) that the rock is dry rock and never been through cycle.

They are stainless steel

I can seem to find nylon ones

Is there a reason to replace?

Stainless will rust. I ended up buying titanium ones for on the Abyzz pumps. they were hard to find, ended up ordering them from Italy I think.

You could also use nylon hose clamps. They are pretty snug, especially if you put them on when the hose is warm. Also easier to remove these.

Your building a system worth thousands and thousands of dollars... I'd just take a chance on the ~$20 clamps If they don't cut it, that's less than the cost of a nice fish.
