New fish store?

I heard there is a new fish store on 7th street or maybe it was broadway. Anyone know about this? I am interested if it is worth checking out.

Speaking of - where does everyone go around town? I only know of Petland and Terri's aqualand. Neither of which I really like. I used to live in Schaumburg so know of all of the places in that way. I was just curious about places that are 15-30 minute drive at most.

It is called Prime Aquatics, they are on 7th street. They are freshwater for the most part. Last time I was there, they only had limited saltwater stuff. I usually go to Waynes Feed on Auburn St., or Petland out by Cherryvalle.

Yeah, they actually have added more saltwater tanks. I go every Thursday, that is when the new shipments come in.....😉

I've bought salt at Prime aquatics, to support local. BUT they don't have much SW... 1- 2 tanks? been a while. I could walk there in 10-15 minutes.

Terri's moved and got outta salt "if" I heard right. Further up north on N2nd in the "mall" by windsor. They had salt about 6-8 months ago, but I think they shut it down.

Petland is petland, with petland prices.... I think Joe might be back there?.....I've dealt with him alot on the FW side. Great guy, and if I get stuff, I have/will try to deal with him again....He actually has some of my nicer FW fish in his own aquariums.

Waynes is good for fish, not coral. They get a descent variety, and they do pretty good for all small solo setups. I prefer to buy fish here, even though I never buy fish LOL. I got 2 carpet nems in the last 3 years from here.

Nothin much you are missing, but if your looking for something, both Petland and Waynes can special order. BTW Petco on state has fish if your into rescue mode =).

Teris is out of salt as I understand it too. And what was said about prime is correct, little to no salt BUT lots of cool Fresh water, stingrays BIG arawans and the like. Joe is at Petland Tuesday and Wednesday another knowledgeable guy is there the rest of the week. Fish come in on Wednesday and Thursday. Corals come from one of the distributors as most Chicago stores use, but don't charge city prices. Coral prices have gone down over the last year there and quality and quantity has gone up IMO. It is feast and fast though. About once or twice a month they get 50+ coral and sell down to a few then get another order. that's due to going to the distributor and cherry picking instead of blindly ordering a few each week. The design and maintenance of the coral system, as well as maintenance of all other salt is done right. Not to say there is never an issue, its a fish store, but its few and far between these days. Dry good selection has vastly improved and prices are very competitive...like Salinity salt for $90. And when they do sales it is a great deal, like buy 2 get 1 free or a deep discount on items. They had the 4' Aquaticlife 4 bulb T-5 for $300 last month Special orders on high end dry goods usually beat on-line pricing too. They also buy as much from local breeders and fraggers as possible. I sell them frags and lizards all the time.
While once upon a time they didn't get my vote, they do now

I will say that evrything about Petlands saltwater section has improved 100% over the last year or so. Tanks are cleaner, better coral selection etc. Prices are pretty reasonable...unless you want to buy a shrimp.JK ;)

I just googled them. Its an aquarium service in Machesney Park I believe. Is this the one run by Steve? If so, I was curious if he was still around.

Yep. That's it. Steve is still is around. Was just there on Friday. Weekends are the best time to stop in. You have to call him first.

No, he has a little of everything. He had some nice clams, a carpet anemone, fish, acros, lps and sps.
