New fish, Yellow Assessor!

This is one cool fish.
He doesn't really care how he swims.
No pictures yet, he only comes out to eat.
Been wanting one of these, couldn't' pass him up when I saw him.
 
Took 2 days, but he's now out full time, so i got a picture.
Shrimp just molted today too.

After 6 weeks in the observation tank, moved him over to the DT.
Been 2 days, haven't seen him. :sad2:
 
Hopefully if you give him some time, he'll show. How big is the tank and how much LR? It may just be hiding...

Ever had any problems with your CBS attacking fish?
 
I have an ORA Yellow Assessor (For about two years now)… He's a reclusive little guy: out in the morning before lights on plus about an hour after the "wake up" bulbs come on, then he disappears until about an hour before the lights go off and stays out until bedtime.

Swims sideways, up side down, right side up… Really a neat fish that has to be observed to fully appreciate.

29G with around 30lbs of rock.
Lots of places to hide though.
I have seen the CBS lunge at fish, so he's been exiled, trying to sell him on CL, as he's getting quite large.
The tank is quite peaceful, the 2 clowns will chase the chromis from time to time, that's about it for aggression.
The firefish spends most of the day out.
Had a damsel, once I got rid of him (back to store), the tank became a peaceful haven.
 
Yes, I have one as well. I don't see him much. I would not have purchased one if I knew it was going to hide all of the time.
 
Just give him some time, I guess. If he doesn't show, it may have perished, and the CUC got to him...

Though all fish can jump, I don't believe assessors are known jumpers. Have you checked the floor around your tank just in case?

Fed the fish tonight, saw him in a cave, was able to get some food to him, and he ate!
Wouldn't come out of the cave, and he was swimming sideways, which is normal, but he did eat food that drifted into the cave.
I think he's going to be ok.

Saw hm again today, he does this exact thing, comes out after the main lights go off, with just the actinics on.
Better than nothing.
 
Looks like you have cyano and GHA too :(

I have a Macneill's Assessor Basslet thinking of maybe getting a yellow but I am cautious about it.
 
I don't personally have one of these, but my favorite saltwater LFS has a 14g biocube reef on their counter with one of these fellows in it. He's shy, but he's fun to watch... They must have incredible control over their swim bladder, because they really don't have an 'up' or a 'down'. To them, the nearest hard surface is 'down', even if that means they're scooting their way around under an overhang, upside down and sideways.
 
My yellow pretty much is out all the time. Just give it time. However, It rarely strays away from the safety of cover.

I have a yellow, blue and a McNeil. They all get along well. I'm hoping to find more of the McNeill's.
