New fish!

DPS that is a very nice selection of new fishes. I am sure you will be happy that you stuck it out after your recent problems.
Good luck with them.

Awesome stuff DPS. I tried the Queen/Rock Beauty combo a bit ago (image). Unfortunately, my queen only lasted 2 days. My Rock Beauty is still going strong though. I agree with Phil, I think WWM and other sources, may have it wrong. If you want a Rock Beauty, definitely aim for a little juvi. Mine was only 1 1/2" (image) when I got him, and is now a touch over 2". He took to prepared foods very well.

DPS, you have beautiful fish. It'll be great to see them grow up; I'm really interested in seeing the queen and french grow up. I used to not like french angels, but then I saw a huge one somebody had on this board and fell in love. So I'm looking forward to seeing their progress.

It's a shame about the confusion in shipping, though I hope the queen and rock beauty work out, though. At the same time, however, I've never seen anyone with a doctorfish before. I wonder why they call them doctorfish or surgeonfish...

Anyways, congratulations on your new fish! :)

funny thing is i orderd same thing... 1 blue angelfish,1 grey angelfish, 1 cortez angelfish, and 1 Doctor tang....instead of them sending me the doctor tang they send me a dussimier tang so i think i got a good deal! =)

philter4, makes perfect sense. I know the only thing that makes a queen a brazilian one is becuase they are true bred queens. I am sure there are many around the keys that are the same. Also being many hybrids as well. This queen seems to have full queen juvi colors, but only time will tell. Here is a pic of the face of the french, looks like a french to me, right? Black lips, yellow around the mouth?

e55MD, thanks! I am very happy with the new fish! I just hope they put some meat on them, since they have to share the 210g with my huge eel and wrasse, even though both are very docile.

aqua, sorry about your queen, that is a gorgeous little rock beauty tho! What do you think happened with the queen? I hope my trio makes it, I am worried about the queen, being the smallest. Queens are my favorite.

umbriel, I agree, the adults are gorgeous! The juvi's are good looking, but adults is where its at! I just love seeing fish grow up and go through the color changes. I don't know what they call it a doctorfish tang, it's not like it cleans other fish like a cleaner shrimp? Thanks!

hong, did you order that all from one dealer? I'd love a duss tang! You definitely got a better deal there! Just watch out for aggression, and those tangs get huge! I'd love to see pics!

Recty, I agree! How are your new arrivals doing?

Ok, well all of the angels made it thru the night. It always scares me with new fish, the night is usually when they die. I tried feeding them just mysis mixed with boyds and garlic. Only the rock beauty ate it. The french and queen showed some interest, but I didn't see them actually eat any. I have an algae sheet in there, someone may have been pecking at it, or a powerhead could have torn it up some. How long do you leave algae sheets in a tank for? I hate wasting it, I shouldn't have put in such a big piece.

I only leave algae sheets in for about 6 hours max... otherwise you start seeing little algae pieces floating around in the tank so you know it's breaking up and dissolving and you really want to keep all rotting food out of the tank as much as possible while in QT, keep that ammonia from showing up.

The Queen developed what I believe to be a swim bladder infection over the first night. She couldn't keep herself neutrally bouyant and kept floating up to the surface. It really was stressing her out. Eventually got to the point where I had to hold her from turning belly up. Tried lightly rubbing her stomach, but to no avail...

I will probably take the algae sheet out now then. QT is such a pain in the ***! Aqua, weird about the swim bladder, thought that was more with deeper fish, sorry about her :(

Anyone have any ideas on what other food to try? I was thinking cyclopeeze? Or should I just wait for them to come around?

Wish you could find Brazilian juvi queens.

Divers Den has had two 2" Brazilian Queen Angels in the last week or two. I'll try and go through my browsing history when I get home and find them. I believe they had one on there last night or the night before, it was $99.99 and about 2.5".

I really hope your angels make it, good luck!

Here is the one that sold last night...I wish my tank was ready for a queen. :(

The other they had on there earlier this week was even smaller, I think around 2-1/4", if I remember correctly.

WOW! I never saw them! They must have gone so quick! I only saw the large brazilian queens. Mine looks almost identical like that, so well see how it grows up. Its going to take a while! I probably should have stepped up to the 3-5" range! I hope they make it too, they seem active and no issues. But the queen is hiding a lot, he already claimed one tube hers, the french seems to follow the other two around a lot, but not chase, I think that frightens the queen. They need to eat though! I will be gone until sunday, so hopefully they do ok then.

Tried feeding again, changed out their algae sheet. The rock beauty is the only one eating. The queen seems to be hiding in her tube a lot. Seems the french will follow her when she comes out, but zero aggression, no chasing or attacking, the french is just really curious. I put in a piece of liverock from my refugium of the 120g. It has some sponge and algaes on it. Hopefully they will pick at it and get their appetite going. I really don't know what to do, every fish I have had always ate well.

nice fish Dps !
Good luck with them all

I just happen to be looking today at some prices and fish on the web
I came across this description on how to tell them apart

quoted from site

" Juvenile Cortez Angel

Description: Do not mistake this fish with the French Angel. The Cortez has a distinguishing blue vertical stripes between the yellow stripes and both stripes (blue & yellow) are narrower. If all fails, count the yellow stripes, French Angel has a total of 5 and the Cortez has 6 from face to tail. "

I think a Cortez is pretty easily distinguished but the gray and French are very similar. But I have confirmed it is a French. Thank you, hopefully they start eating soon! I'm a little worried about them!

try everything (in moderate amounts) to see what they take as food. Brine shrimp is almost always the first thing i put in to see if they'll eat floating food.... but then again I got the luxury of getting to choose fish that are already eating (brine) at the LFS

Well the queen and french still aren't eating. I added some rock from my fuge from the 120g that is covered in algaes, sponges and even an aiptasia. They devoured it all. Only the rock beauty eats prepared foods though. I might try and pick up some live brine. I have an algae sheet rubberbanded to a rock, see how that works, they didn't touch it on the clip. These guys are difficult!

DPS, you're on the right track with the nori. they'll start picking at that before they'll eat flakes/mysis in my experience. It took mine 4-5 days to eat nori and better than a week to eat anything else. Don't worry too much.

Yeah, I just saw the french picking at the algae sheets that I banded to the rock. The queen picks at the rock, not the sheet though. She tears up red bubble algae, aiptasia and sponges! I'm guessing I won't be able to keep any corals with this bunch. I just don't want them starving since baby angels need to eat multiple times a day.
