New Frags on the way, can I glue them when I get them?

Walmart (Yes, Walmart :)) carries clear acrylic soap dishes with suction cups attached for $1 in the "housewares" section. These have small square holes on the bottom for drainage (circulation), and due to the suction cups they can be placed at any level you want them. These are perfect to use for acclimating frags.

Found a Pic I had taken of a frag that shows the $1 acrylic soap dish from Walmart

That is brillant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1) These have "drain holes" in the bottom large enough to get the tip of your little finger in, that should allow for circulation.

2) Eggcrate won't work with many frags (Acros, Monti Digi, etc) unless they are mounted, and many of us don't like to mount new frags right away.

i bought the 10 for 150 pack from RM about 7 months ago-seeing how they are wild corals most will lose a little color for a couple of months and then start to color up depending on your tank conditions.

btw, what is the proper process to mount these frags anyway?

use super glue first, then the aqua stick epoxy next?

That can be overkill [glue-epoxy-glue] for smaller frags ... nevermind more obvious. When I can get a clean bond with just superglue, that's preferable IMO [and I don't see glue/epoxy].

I would lean more towards eggcrate, as getting good flow [esp around the base] is important.

Same here. This whole thread surprised me, I would never stick new frags in a jar or something with a lid. I put them somewhere with good indirect flow and low light. I also glue them right away though, usually onto a small piece of rock put on an eggcrate rack. Then after a couple days I move the rock around until I find a place in the tank the coral seems to like. Once found, Ill superglue the rock where I want it. The glue is brittle enough that I can break the rock back off if needed.

I dont ever use epoxy.

epoxy heats up too much if you ask me, even with the superglue epoxy superglue method... I have always used super glue gel without any problem... I think this is all overanalyzed....

Small frags super glue gel. On the larger colonies you might want to use s glue, epoxy, s glue. The weight of the piece will pull it right over with just glue and even then you still need to hold it in place, sometimes actually lean it against something temporary.

I have a piece of eggcrate glued to a magfloat that works great. Slide it up to acclimate to light

That's what I used to acclimate my RM frags and it worked great!
