can new sps frags make skimmer goes crazy? :eek1: i just got got two frags a few hours ago and my skimmer bubbles way to much, causing the collection cup to fill up in less than a minute. skimmer is a 1 month old aquamaxx hob-1. nothing was added to the tank other than the frags

thanks

Was there superglue on the plugs? Did you superglue them? If so, there may have been too much and somehow it got to the skimmer.

However, I have never experienced, nor heard of, new frags causing skimmers to go nuts.

i can see epoxy on one frag, as it didn't cure onto the plug yet, but i did not apply any glue myself

i got other frags from the same shop before, and the skimmer never did this.

any other thoughts??

I'd say it is the epoxy. If you can't turn on your Protein Skimmer because it is bubbling too much, turn it on right after you feed frozen next time. The oils from the food will keep the Skimmer from producing too many bubbles, but it may eventually produce too many again and you'll have to turn it off for another day. I had a problem like this from epoxy, and using this method I got it to turn back on permanently after the second day.

ohh... oil on arms. forgot about that. and its warm in so cal today too... so probably lots of oil

what should i do? run carbon? anything else?

about the epoxy, i didn't use any, its whatever the lfs used only when they fragged. is that still an issue?

no

it was on the plug when i got it. i didnt apply epoxy at all

so how do i fix this? turn on skimmer when feeding frozen? carbon? something else??

thanks everyone!!

skimmers are really sensitive so it can be the epoxy if the epoxy has just been applied or putting ur hand in the tank releasing oils or making the water level rise in ur tank thus interrupting the water level in your skimmer. just lower the water level in your skimmer

hob skimmers usually have cups that go up and down. not sure if ur aquamax has one but if it does you can raise ur cup and slowly lower it till the skimmer goes back to normal. if raising it all the way up doesnt work then turn it off for awhile.
