New generation REEF FLOW Skimmer

Hey all,

I just recieved the next generation Reef Flow ORCA 200 Skimmer. This thing is small, the reaction chamber is only 8"! I also have the 250 model on another system and it's twice as big. Also I'm not that impressed with the way the collection cup just sit's on the skimmer body. The last thing that got my crank was the new motors from sequense are to big! The motor houseing is so big that the electrical box on the side hits the skimmer and the plumbing won't go together, it's off buy 1 1/4. Arrgggee!!!! On top of all this, I waited for two months to get the dang thing.:mad2:

Here's a picture of what I'm talking about..

ooooo that sucks, but if you dont want it, I'll fix it up and use it. Just box it up and send it to.....

lol you'll get it hatched out, just take it easy. Once that thing is cranking out goo you'll be just tickled!:D

Yeah...I'll get it worked out. But you'd think they would at least test fit there new product before shipping. Oh well, thanks for letting me vent a little.

I mean sometimes it's smarter to settle, that's gonna cost like 4 dollars in PVC, maybe ask them to reimburse you. Life is not about making people pay for their mistakes.

I'm just saying, its probably easier to redo that piece of plumbing yourself, then to, box it up, ship it back, wait, wait, wait, get it again, set it up.....naw, reef keepers are inherently industrious individuals.

I am of the opposite view of ReefTeck. I would make sure this was brought to their attention and firmly and politely ask them to remedy the situation. If they can not remedy the situation with the current model then perhaps they can substitute the 250 or at least a comparable skimmer. (Yes I know how much they cost)

I find when I see something like this is to list a couple solutions you would be happy with.. I.E. Fix the current problem, substitute a comparable model, pay for the return on the item so you can select a new one, or any combination of the above.

look in the reeflo 200 thread, some folks have had this problem with the orca pumps. there's one retailer that before shipping them takes the pump apart and reclocks the housing so that box can't interfere. mike at reefspecialty dot com, he seems to be functioning as reeflo's tech support, maybe he can help you out!

the plumbing is all metric, so you may have a hard time getting parts to fit.

2nd

Glad I went the Bubble King route. I almost went with Reef Flo, but if that is the effort they are gonna put into things.....forget it. I have seen the skimmers work and they do an awesome job, but you should not spend that much and get that kind of design and service.

Sorry to hear about your hassle and thank you for sharing it with the rest of us.

Reefteck- I only wish I could fix this problem with a simple PVC fix. But it's not that easy. All the plumbing is metric! No body carries meteric, you have to special order it. As much as these skimmer are, you'd think they would have some kind of quality control, or an effort of makeing sure the new design fit's together at a minimum.

ArgonDreams- I agree with your statement, and that's what I've done so far. The retailer I bought it from has the pictures and all the info to forward to Reef Flow. I know they'll make it right. :)

Ok guy's here's the update.

Reeflo was great to work with..They not only contacted me right way to fix the problem, there going to swap a Dart that I have for there gold series pump too. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!

Thanks

Now I want to see if they'll do something about the Orca 250 I have. The cup design is to short and there some guy making an after market cup design thats taller and it seem's to be the answer for the flooding problem the 250 has. So my contact is going to talk to them direct to see if the'll step up and fix that problem too.
