New Gig

I picked up a new Gig. from a lfs that is pretty well known for good stock in the chicago area. I walked in and he had 6 gigs to choose from 3 tans, 2 blues, and a purple i went with the purple as the blue was outside my spending limit. The owner of the store when he removed it from the tank it was very very sticky. When i went to put it in my tank after acclimating it for over an hour. I had to use two hands to get him in the tank and get my hand detached from him. Well forget the story here is a few pics. I picked it up on the 23rd. He is still a bit bleached put attached to a rock right at the sand bed.

Currently looking at one. How is it bleached? Basically off colored body and the purple tips?

Nice looking by the way.

He is partially bleached as his brown which is his food source is faded somewhat and the purple tips are not a very deep color. This means he will rely on food more to bring him back. Here is a link to a picture of mine so you can tell the difference and I think mine is still going to get even deeper in purple. I have had mine for a little over two months now and it looked similar to his origionally, the photo I took is unedited and just a point and shoot camera with zero settings on.http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e392/speedzonwheels/DSCF1766.jpg

Now to the OP, Great looking GIG! I got my first purple gig that is about 16 inches a couple months back. He looks healthy, I would feed him daily though to bring his color back to life. I been feeding mine daily and I don't think you can over feed these guys, If you see him let go of some of the food, than he usually has had enough for the day. Good luck and great to see another healthy gig in the forums

Maybe these will help.

This is mine when I first got it. Very bleached. The tan areas are where some zooxanthellae are still within the anemone and alive.

Here's the same anemone after healing. No longer bleached.

elegance i remember when you first posted about this one. you were confident it's a gig right? those white tips are so unique, never seen that before. hard to tell in the pic but it appears to have kept them after recovering from bleaching. very nice. any explanation on that?

nice nem Joe1584!

Hay Joe, sweet anemone. What are your plans for getting the zooxanthellae back?
Sorry for the temporary hijack.

There's no doubt that this is a gig. Honestly, I haven't paid much attention to the white tips on the tentacles, but you're right. I guess my eyesight ain't what it once was.:rolleye1: I blew up one of my pic's and the white tips are still there. They just aren't as noticeable as they were. The tentacles are much thinner and longer than before, so the tip is smaller.
