New Green Gig arrived

I got a blue gig almost a week ago got it Thursday it had cuts on the bottom of its foot and wouldn't attach until yesterday and it's still not fully attached to the qt tank but he's healing and attached even more today maybe it's the same with yours did you check the bottom of the foot?

Checked the foot. Didn't see anything abnormal.

After the cipro I am planning to keep it in the QT tank for another couple weeks assuming everything goes well. If I put a well seeded marine pure block in the tank would 100% daily water changes still be needed?

Yeah I would do a 100% after each 24 hours and I wouldn't use the block assuming it is a sponge filter they utilize bacteria filtration and cipro is a broad spectrum treatment used to kill bacteria so the spong filtration will be useless and I tried doing 50% water changes and it didn't work that well so I went to 100% and it is working a lot better so far

You want the water to always be fresh so the gig has a better chance to heal and get better

He's talking about after treatment is over.

If the nem isn't expelling anything and the water remains clear, after the final treatment with Cipro and one last 100% water change, there's no need to continue doing full water changes. I use Seachem ammonia alert tags on my QT tanks so I can see at first glance if the water should be changed.

Here it is today. A little shrunken down but not deflated. I'm assuming it might have shrunken down a little because of the new lights that are much stronger? Mouth was slightly open when I got home but closed up when I was doing the water change.

It's looking good: holding itself upright on its own extending over the bowl to get flow, characteristic folds of the oral disc, appears to be fully expanded. Next you'll see the tentacles start to expand.

Congrats!

Looks good so glad it's doing better just remember don't stop treatment early just because it looks better best to do it for the full 7-10 days :) I've stopped before that only to have my anemone get sick again in display rank best of luck keep them pics coming such an awesome animal!

Unfortunately that has been the last time it's looked good. Not sure what is going on with it now but it spent most of the day yesterday balled up like in one of the pics above. Still won't attach to anything. Not sure what to try at this point. I am going to stop cipro tonight. It usually seems to look worse after the cipro is added to the water. I've still been doing 100% daily waterchanges but it doesn't seem to matter.

It should matter as long as it's balled up and not shrinking how many days of treatment has it been? I stopped after 7 on a new gig I had and then I had to put it back into qt because it got sick again:(

Okay so take him off treatment and move him to display turn off power heads etc and just let him sit for maybe 5/6 hours with the light on him and see if he attaches he might just want more light and flow

Moving it into the display is not a good idea if the nem is dying. If it dies in the tank it could start to fall apart making removal very difficult. It could also expel all of its nematocysts and effectively "nuke" the tank.

100% water changes -- assuming the water parameters are correct -- should provide the same, if not better conditions than the DT.

Gigs typically attach to any surface when healthy, then crawl to a place that suits them. They're not like BTAs which detach and float around until they find a place that they like.

Well the way he is staying it is that it's not shrinking it's just closing up which I know from experience is one of the ways a gig will react to cipro when it's introduced to the water

I don't understand what you're saying.

If he's doing a 100% water change, then there is no Cipro.

It's about half open now. Still not looking great. I did a 100% waterchange and did not add cipro today. Just going to see how it does at this point I think. The cloudiness in the pic is the glass of the tank, not the water.

During your next water change, make sure to wipe down the tank when there isn't any water in it to remove the algae/build-up on the bottom. If the nem isn't attached to the bowl, carefully remove it from the bowl. With a clean surface, the anemone should attach. Slowly fill up the tank, then turn on the flow (assuming the nem is attached).

New Green Gig arrived

Do you give it the full amount of light in qt?
