New Green Gig

Well i dont know what happened to the other thread the PinkSkunk had started about a Gig that was being sold in Chicago on craigslist but i was fortunate enough to see it before it went away so I picked him up today. He's actually bigger then the seller states, but looks extremely healthy. He's been in captivity for over 1 year so I put him straight in the DT tank. Here are some pics.

Tasso that threat got removed because i am not suppose to advertise sale in this forum.....etc. but whatever. nice nem and glad you got it.

Thanks, really appreciate you putting this out there, i dont think i would have came across this if i hadn't see your post. Gig is doing well this morning, i'll keep updating.

I think that guy was for sale for a good month or more? I saw this guy for sale for a few weeks atleast. I'm surprised it lasted so long, looks pretty good in the picture. Here's a picture I snapped a few weeks ago I texted someone about.

I'm glad to see it went to a good home!

Thanks Taylor, I don't look at Craigslist too often so I definitely would have missed this. He's doing great and it's definitely way bigger than in this picture. I had to take the rock he was on as well and that was no small piece either!

Great to hear! You're way ahead if you find one established, AND attached to rock you can take. I don't look too often either, I just happened to run across it at the time. I almost never look at craigslist often, that's why I remember that one, it had been a while between looks and I saw the same ad! Congrats!

The gig is doing good but he keeps moving around on the rock that he is currently on. He will go from front to back on it and basically circle it every other day. I didn't think Gigs moved around that much, my blue Gig has stayed put always. Does he not like that spot? He originally was on another rock which is pictured above but he has moved off of that one onto another one in my tank that I have in the center of the tank and not touching any other rock. I moved the rock away from other rocks to kind of isolate him to that one but i feel that i have trapped him to that space. Will he actually let go of that rock and float to another one if he really doesnt like it?

I can't help you with the gig's behavior much. But you are doing well with it so far! If its moving, then it's likely in good health. IMHO

I'm just a tad bit jealous.:headwally:
It's a beauty.
I'm still working on keeping one alive....

They often do not like their foot exposed. use a rocl with deep crevices should halp a lot to keep them stationary.

Rock does have deep crevices and the foot is not exposed. Sometimes he moves up high on the rock and sometimes he goes low also where the sand meets the rock.

I'm jealous of that gorgeous blue haddoni you have there! Looks like its doing better now and his size is impressive.

you can try to put him in a glass bowl like this one. mine has grown so big that i dont ever see the bowl anymore and the bowl is about 5" round so its easy to aquascape for it. and i can move the carpet anywhere simply by moving the bowl.

Getting him off my rock will be almost impossible so I don't think this is an option for me but thanks for the suggestion. I guess he's ok and he'll eventually settle down. Yours doesn't climb out of the bowl?

nope, he appear to love where he is and stayed put. he is so large now i dont even see the bowl. one day i accidently dropped my net on him and he quickly retracted and shrunk into the bowl and that's when i realized that he is still in the bowl..... if you know what i am trying to say :)

Yup sure do....although I've dropped my net couple of times on my blue Gig and instead of retracting he tried to eat it because he wouldn't let go of it for a good 20 minutes!
