New guys - baby Regal and Venustus

I have started the treatment, but it's with Freshwater Maracyn 2. I've got about 40 gallons to treat, so I started with 8 packets, 2 packets / 10 gallons on the first day.

The bump is no worse than it was two days ago, but it's no better either. I have heard that the FW Maracyn 2 works as well, but that you are supposed to double the dose for Saltwater. Any thoughts on that?

The fish is still hammering food, so I'm not worried at this point.

I also have the nitrofuracin green powder on hand and may use that for a second treatment if the Maracyn 2 doesn't do the job.

Thank you for the heads up, I have to admit that this is the first time I have ever treated for a bacterial infection.

I have an ammonia alert badge, so hopefully that will help keep me ahead of the game.

Maracyn 2 is a known slow acting anti-biotic, so don't expect to see a change overnight. If you are consistent with the dosage, it does work. Mardel did away with their SW Maracyn 2, and opted to keep the FW version. And yes, you will have to double the dosage of the FW version. Good luck, and as mention above, keep an eye on ammonia and feed lightly.

So the directions read, 2 packets / 10 gallons the first day, and then 1 packet /10gallons days 2 - 5.

So if I'm treating 40 gallons, instead of doing 8 packets yesterday, I should have done 16? And then 8/day for the next 4 days? That's a lot of product.

If I can't do a water change, what is the recommended way to mitigate the ammonia? Prime or amquel?

Exceptionally cloudy now, I hope that's normal. The fish doesn't seem to be eating as much either. I supposed it's only 5 days worth of treatment, so i'm hopeful the thing will last for three more days.

Yep, you are going to have to use quite a bit of FW Maracyn 2. I still don't know why Mardel discontinued the SW version. They now have a FW/SW Maracyn Plus, but some RC members have complained that it is too harsh on the fish. I personally have never tried it.

Also the tank water will get a little bit cloudy and you will get a light film on the glass after a couple of days. I use Prime to eliminate ammonia, but only in an extreme case; which luckily has only happened once or twice in all the years I have been medicating my QT. I mostly rely on small water changes, feeding sparingly, and removing any waste and excess food.
