new haddoni carpet

im not sure, honestly. It switches back and forth between the photos above and VERY scrunched up. I keep thinking it's a goner and then it opens back up. The thing is stressing me out!

Well the anemone is no more. It puffed out a milky white fluid last night which I assume is a last ditch effort at spawning before death. He was face down and inside out this morning so I flushed him.

Oh well, lesson learned. I think it was a combination of not being 100% healthy after shipping when I bought it and probably mistakes I made with my first nem (I don't know what mistakes I made, necessarily, but I'm sure there were a few.)

I won't be trying the anemone thing again until I'm in a much larger tank... It got surprisingly crowded in my tank when it would open up.

i am not sure that you have enough light for anenome, i have been told they need a lot of light in the range of 4 to 5 watts per gallon.

I had 156 watts of t5ho over 40 gallons... Add the tek2 reflectors which supposedly triple the output and I don't think light was the issue. I had to shade it when I put it in, it would close up when the lights turned on if I didn't.

I'd say double this amount. 4 to 5 watts per gallon (although an outdated 'rule' because different lights have different PAR outputs and individual reflectors make a big difference) is good for low to medium light corals. Nems need more light than that.

They usually don't tolerate any nitrates, and seem to do better in tanks that have been established and running for at least a year. I don't know why, but having a mature, established tank makes a difference with long-term success keeping these guys.

i had 550 watts of vho lighting on my 150 and i could not keep a nem i tried twice, i now have 660watt of vho and 500watt of mh and i dont have any problem keeping nems. my 2 nems moved to about 10 inches for the lights. also i do not target feed my nems, nems have a hard time with food over 1/4 in diameter.

I might add that those are the nems that everybody thought were such ugly ducks ;) Matt has given them the TLC they needed - ugly no more.
