I saw this at the store and had to have it. It is huge and only $59 with $2 extra for the rock it was attached to. This is my first one. I have kept and LTA before. My full grown clarkii immediately hosted when I turned off the lights. Is it healthy. Under uv it glows green.

Looks pretty good, keep an eye on the mouth. You want to see it nice and tight. Adequate flow but to much. Wat kind of lighting did it come from? What kind of lighting do you have?? He will most likely move down to the sand and burry his foot. Good Luck!!!

I just bought one with some false percs and they still haven't hosted it yet. Any idea why? The anemone eats and verything and opens up beautifully, but they won't host it. :( It's only been since Friday though..

My Occelaris pair has been in tanks with 3 different kinds of anemones and have never once gone anywhere near them. Ditto with my tomatos. My Cinnamon hosted all 3 types and my maroon spent about 3 days getting used to his new home in a BTA.

Clowns will be clowns...

I can't believe it, the anemone looks bad this morning with the mouth fully open. I am photographing the good and bad so I have a record. The foot even detached. Why?? The pet shop has poor lighting. I have 8 T-5's 39 watt. Sad

Did you acclimate it to your lights?

From another thread about Haddonis, the question is the same

Wow, sorry do hear that Dave. Is the mouth just open, or open and protruding.

Meaning, does it look at all like this? (( hope not, because this one went down hill fast after looking like this ))

Yes it looks like that. Brown/ black stuff, zooxanthellae? was coming out of the mouth. Tentacles retracted, foot off rock. All this in just a short time. Thanks

I have a small 3" gigantea that has been in my tank for a week. Just this morning, it detached just like the same experience the OP is seeing. That picture up above with the mouth open and protruding out is exactly like my anemone. In fact, I thought that was the picture from my tank. :spin2: Are these anemones doomed?

From my extensive reading and limited personal experience, if they live, they will be the exception to the rule.

Sorry.

I need to post more pics. This afternoon, the anemone looked better and I dug a spot out in the sand and put him there and piled up the sand next to him. My huge clown pushes him around and does not like it contracted.

I personally would make an attempt to separate the clarki from the anemone until he has had time to plant his foot, acclimate, and become comfortable in his new environment. Clarki's can be very rough with their hosting anemone, and unless fully established, would have to believe this is doing nothing more than agitating the anemone even more.

I'd leave the nem alone and let it tell you what's happening rather than trying too many things to try to make it happy. Just my $.02
