New Harlequin Tusk

Hi,

I just received a gorgeous Australian Tusk that I had ordered from the Diver's Den. The packaging was great and the fish was in great shape. He is now residing in a quarantine tank and is eating very well and is actively swimming especially during the night time hours. The question I have is about the quarantine that fish at the Diver's Den like my tusk undergo. Most specifically are there any medications used such as copper during this quarantine? How about hyposalinity? So many questions. The reason I ask is because if the fish has already been quarantined do I need to do my own quarantine. I am trying to decide if I should do hypo just as a preventive measure against ich. The fish looks great and healthy, but that alone doesnt mean a fish cant have ich. I would rather be safe than sorry but then again I dont know if doing hypo would do more harm than good and if its necessary. Sorry for being so long winded. Please let me know what quarantine methods/treatments were employed for this fish. Again, thanks for the gorgeous fish and for your excellent service!

Regards,
Gary

Capt. Nemo,

We are happy to hear that your Harlequin Tusk arrived healthy. We take pride in the shipment of our fish. All our live specimens that arrive at our Coral Farm for Diver’s Den are acclimated into the quarantine tanks and observed to ensure optimal health. The fish that do show signs of parasites or other illnesses are treated and quarantined for an extended period. Even though we are thorough with the quarantine procedure, there will always be some amount of stress during shipment. Therefore, we would still suggest quarantining any fish you would like to add to your show tank.

Sincerely,

Hypo is find for expended periods of time. I had several clowns, hawkfish and gobies in hypo (.009) for 2 months. All had very good appetites. A tusk is a much stronger fish too. However an issue maybe the size of your QT for such a much large fish.
