Just got my first tank setup, and it is a week into its cycling process. It is a 29gal saltwater with a Current-USA Pro LED light, marine land dual filter, 30lbs of live sand, 1 clownfish, 1 Wrassle, 5 snails, and 5 hermit crabs.

I'll be adding about 30lbs of live rock this week.

Update:
We're still going through the cycle. Ammonia is non-existent, nitrites are coming down, and so are nitrates. It shouldn't be much longer now...

I can't believe no one mentioned the fish in a non cycled tank! Although a fishless cycle is what is practiced nowadays, a long while ago, everyone used a small hardy fish to cycle the tank, we just didn't expect them to live through the cycle.

The prolonged exposure to ammonia and high nitrites will have detrimental effects to the health of your inhabitants.

Also adding that much new rock, will cause your cycle to start all over again, unless of course its good quality live rock.

Sorry for being a Debbie Downer, but I like most of us on here, want you to start off right so your foray into marine life doesn't end in heartache.

i did notice the fish in the non-cycled tank, but I just got to the thread. :) This is generally considered a bad idea, as it's harmful to the fish. They may indeed make it through the cycle alive, but ammonia toxicity damage is not always immediately apparent.

Edit: Good

Keep a close watch on your Flame Angel, your tank is too small for it and you are likely going to have some aggression issues with it. Years ago I had one in a 50 gallon tank before I realized they needed a larger tank. It was fine for a few months but suddenly it went rouge and killed a few tank mates before I could catch it.

The skull came out once the rock came in.. We had it laying around so I just threw it in there for the heck of it.
The LFS said 30gal was ok for the flame angel, but as of now, he sticks really close to the tank mates and has shown zero aggression. At night he shares the same cave as the Goby when there are several other open ones
