Ken , that was pretty much what I was doing before . what I was asking about was how much time I should take to ramp up my NEW lighting so I don't fry mt corals and fish with the extreme dif in lighting. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
Most people raise up their canopy higher than normal when they upgrade or replace bulbs and slowly lower it down over the course of a week or so. or you can put layers of window mesh screen and peel one away each day for a week or so.
The two methods that Jed mentioned work very well. You can also shorten the photoperiod and work up slowly. For example, the first few days only have your halides on for an hour or two, then go to three, four, and so on.
crispyreef thats what I am doing MH 10am-1pm, true actinics 6am-8pm,actinic+'s8am-4pm(changed out the blue+'s as they looked too white)and will increaseMH 1 hr/wk until I get to about 8hrs depending on how tank responds, algae,coral color etc. thx for the responses.
