New house, new tank!!

Hello everyone! Never really started a build thread for my old tanks and decided since i recently bought a new house, and a new to me tank, perfect time to document my new journey.

My old tank, a red sea max 250, was a birthday gift from my gf at the time, now wife, 3 years ago. Here's a quick progression of the tank.

Bit by the bug three years ago.

And now where its at today. The tank has been moved three times and had a couple of casualties and is finally starting to turn around.

.

I recently purchased a new tank from a fellow forum member on here with the dimensions 48 X 30 X 20 by lee mar i believe.

The stand was not in the best of shape and I was considering trying to repair it.

I tried painting it and we found a location for the tank that would enhance the room. I ended up peeling off the black background paint and turned it into a peninsula tank. After looking at it we have to try to fix the back of the stand since it will be viewable from both side.

Decided to trash the stand since it was damaged beyond repair and have my uncle help me with a new one. Found some inspiration on the web from a member on another forum with the forum name of shelby_cos. If he is on this forum and reading this, thank you so much for sharing your build. After seeing your stand, i had to have something similar. I always believe mockery is the highest form of flattery. This is my version of his stand.

Slowing starting to look like a reef tank. Moved some corals from my Red sea max 250 over to the new tank. Also picked up the new maxspect gyre from the good guys at Aquarium Collection.

Dealing with a little bit of green hair algae. Wonder if its due to intensity of the light.

Sump looks a little messy but love my trigger sump.

Very nice. Loving the stand (much better than particle board) and sump. It shows off the rock and corals quite nicely.

Looks nice. I love the wood work on the stand.

Love that stand!

Thanks alot guys. I owe it all to my uncles who put love into it. I paid them handsomely in cool alcoholic beverages and beef, a couple of stages throughout the build.

very nice, like it a lot, light hung perfectly

Thanks alot. I might have to take it down and put up more holes in my beautiful roof for my new fixture when i get it.

What are you using on the bottom of your tank?

Its called starboard. I got it at Tap plastic cut to size to be an 1/2inch smaller on all sides of the inside of the tank so it wont sit on the silicone. Its pretty much a big piece of cutting board.

Very cool - love the stand. Do you have the panels built for it yet? I see the magnet catches...

Also - any thoughts on your maxspect gyre yet - or is it too soon to tell? From that video, looks like you have tons of internal flow.

If you look at some of the pictures i actually have the panels on them. Its acrylic mirrors so you cant really tell unless you really look at it because its reflecting the hardwood floors.

I love my new gyre, my tank is only 4ft though but it causes a little vortex at the other end when ran at full speed. Im currently running it about 50% and love it, but i have a bb setup. I think with sand i would have to go even less. I currently have gha due to a new tank and its still somewhat cycling so i can clearly see where the water is moving. The undertow is awesome. I use the alternating mode where it switches from pushing the water top to pushing the water bottom at a set interval and love it. When its on the bottom though its not as strong, i think it would be different with alternating the different paddles.

Just finished my saltwater mixing station. This will help me with speedy water changes and eventually i would like to setup an automatic water change system using peristaltic pumps.
