I hated that lady. She played Tony Soprano's shrink on "The Soprano's." Her voice is so annoying, very monotone, no talent ***-clown.

I'm not sure what kind of HW they have behind the scenes, but The site overall does not run very well. RC is one of the bigger sites, but not as big as amazon/ebay/twitter/facebook which are all doing a LOT more then just threaded posts. FAct they make money by providing "paying" users priority access to the search engine shows a flaw in the current implementation to begin with. (IMHO)

I think they are stuck in a problem that they need to develop a better solution that is faster & more scalable then vBulletin running PHP. Prob a compiled version would speed things up, but running THIS many users on a Script based Lanugage for the frontend is just asking for trouble.

However they also are having issues with the Database connections, which can be a seperate issue but I would warrant its more related to the sheer number of users hammering it from the PHP frontend.

Problem is migrating the sheer raw amount of data they have from vBulletin to something new would be a massivly daunting task as well. I'm sure they are WELL aware of the problems though

Yep, moving the data (specifically reparsing it) to fit a more logical environment would take a LONG time.

I believe I recall reading that ReefCentral was the #92 most visited website on the 'net two years ago. HEAVY user load.
