Soooo I've been waiting for this custom LED light set for about 6 months now, AND IT FINALLY CAME!
Thought I'd post some pics so all may bask in its diode-y goodness.
It consists of two 22 x 7 x 1.5" pendants with 56 2w leds in each. It's a mix of blue, white, and purple leds. The overall effect is that of a radium 20k.

Mine are a little different than the ones at BTR now, that's why they took so long to make

thanks guys , I'm curious to see how things grow long-term. I was at areefcreation today and we tested one of my lights with their par meter. I underestimated the power a bit, 280-300 par at 30" from the fixture through a glass top. I'm going to move them up to about 44" above the tank, that should give me about 130 par on the sand bed which is more realistic.

i've been looking into them as well, the colors are just too cool. My one friend has had his DIY fixture for a little over a year and half and has had outstanding colors and growth

oh, i beg to differ, those colors are most definitely fake lol

The colors are not really fake, the way your eyes perceive them is fake or to be more exact,un-natural...Moving a coral from a MH lit tank into a LED lit tank does not instantly change the coloration of said coral. The way our eyes and brain perceive it is the issue. This becomes very apparent when you place the two different types of lighting next to each other for comparison.I am not sure I will ever get used to it and I have been trying for over 6 months, lol.

I got used to it very quick when you only run LEDS and dont have a MH lit tank to compare right next to it. IMHO its like flat screen TV's. If you have a samsung 55" LCD flat screen at the store next to a 55" LED lit slim tv ..theres a HUGE difference in picture, however when you walk into someones house and see the LCD on the wall the picture still looks amazing because the LED tv is not right next to it to compare, although they are both top of the line tv's. When people see my tank (since its inwall) they NEVER can tell if im running MH or LED's ( unless of course i have all blues on) The brightness, color, shimmer etc isnt as big of a difference as people percieve from MH to LED unless the tanks are side by side. And of course it all does depend on the LED manufacturer and type of unit you are running as well. Just my .2 cents.. Ill post a really bad FTS picture of when i ran MH and now with my LED's and i would bet no one can guess which one is which

I can verify those PAR numbers... I was surprised to see how bright it was, even through a salt-creep covered glass lid. Keep us posted, I'm curious to know how your corals will adapt.

When you get a chance, PM me those stores you mentioned. Hope all is well, save me a frag of that watermelon! :)
