New LEDs

I pulled the trigger and bought a 90g retro fit kit from Rapid LED. I swapped out a few of the cool white for warm and neutral whites, as well as a few royal blues for a couple regular blues. All in an effort to have a broader spectrum.

In the future I have a plan to add some supplemental T5.

It should be here next week. Ill post done pics when it's up and running.

I got my LEDs kit a few weeks ago man there are a lot of pieces in that thing. I have been slowly putting it together, trying have to redo as little as possible.

I first attached the LEDs to the first heatsink without using the thermal grease. That way if I needed to move them there was less mess. After I adjusted my layout I put the LEDs on my second heatsink with the thermal grease. I re-greased the LEDs on heatsink #1 and that portion was done. I do wish the connecting wires were 1/4 inch longer. The 4.5s were very tight to span the gap but the 6s left a lot of extra wire.

Wiring up the drivers wasn't bad but there are a lot of wires to keep from looking messy. I managed ok but I have a few ideas about putting my LEDs inside my old t5 housing that way adding supplemental t5 lighting would be easy.

As luck would have it while I was lowering my old light, after doing some work in the tank, the hanging cable broke and it came crashing down on the tank. Luckily no bulbs broke into the tank, or any where else. I guess that was my sigh to just make the time and finish hanging the LEDs.

The red is a a little over powering even at low power as you can see on the back wall. It does seem to make my water clearer which unexpected but welcome. The corals, especially the zoas, seem happy with the new lighting. The corals still seem pale but I think the LEDs may just be accentuating the pre-existing paleness, we will see how they color up in a few weeks.

Very nice and open scape. Those sticks are growing fast.
+1 on toms suggestion with a t5 supplement. I went went from using all led to: t5 and led.
