well just picked up a new 80mm macro lens for my dslr today and snapped a few pics o my sps. tank has been setup for almost 6 weeks now. Lighting is 120 CREE leds, 60 premium royal blues and 60 whites. my leds are driven off two 150w drivers so dimming them doesnt make that much od a difference for visible light.

ok enough rambling, on for the money shots. the only editing i did was crop and contrast adjust on a few pics.

first my favorite. under full lighting

next is a sweet leng si cap, lighting is 100% blues and about 20% whites

any known ID's are nice but i dont really care what they are. My last tank i was crazy about ID's but this tank is an APEX controlled easy effort tank. I am picking corals based on the colors that i want in the tank, gets pricey or some pieces already, and no duplicates.

Thanks or looking

Thank you very much! I just bought the lens off craigslist for 40$ and shooting with my old rebel xti. I will say these are my best coral shot taken to date. Heck my wife said she would buy the first one if it sas framed and hanging in some fancy restaurant, and she usually can care less about my fish tank photos.

Nice pics.
The last one is not an Acropora. It's probably a Pocillopora sp., perhaps P. damicornis.

Grandis.
+1 , poccilopora damicornis i have 3 of them , they came on the rocks :spin3:
They grow very well in different kind of purple / pink hue's

greetingzz tntneon :)

It sits about 4" off the bottom of the tank in med flow and lower light compared to the rest of the sps. When j built the leds I spaced them much farther apart over this section of tank due to the the lack of rock, only a few pieces of rock on the bottom of the tank. Tank height is 20" with leds sitting 7" above the tank top and running 80* optics.

Thanks, gonna get a bunch more stuff tomorrow on my trip to a bigger city, will post them much up Tuesday. I really can't wait till the yank grows in and matures.

is that last one really that purple in person? i have never seen a pocillopora that purple. also love your monti's!

with the actinics on it is that purple, with all lights on it is a very dark pink with very bright green polyps, almost looks like green fur instead of polyps. thanks i have always wanted a leng sy cap and when i found this one for 34.99$ i was all over it, almost 6 inches across. the rainbow monti is getting better color by the day to, the blue base is really prominent when the white lights are on. going to add some red and green leds into the mix to see how it helps out colors.

Yeah for a 40$ craigslist sigma 28-80mm 80mm macro lens i am very happy with it. and all those shots where with ISO 200 F5.6 AV ex. comp -1/3

currently i was running my white leds from 11-8 with 60min ramps on the beginning and end of the schedule for dusk to dawn effect. I just changed the ramps to 100 min to see if i can get a little better color. I notice that around 1-2 hrs before the ramp starts in the evening i loose a little PE on my pocillopra and on the frogspawn i have.

Cant wait to see what out of town stores have for me. Need a PB tang and a desardini sailfin, a few wrasses and of course more vivid-colored sps.

ok well back from my trip and found some nice stuff. I picked up a ping pink acro with blue/purple polyps, some fire and ice zoas, a frag of the limeade acro, bright yellow with a neon green base and purple polyps, and the sweetest piece was the ORA blue voodoo. Now i say WAS on that ORA piece because i was cutting the stem off them frag plug with a big pair of cutters and when the plug finally cut the energy from the cut traveled into the frag and shattered it into about 7 pieces. That was a lot of pieces for a 2" frag with multiple branches. Not to worry though, i did some very precise super glue work and you can barely see that it was broken.

I will post some pics tomorrow after they get settled, they didnt like the 6 hour truck ride home.

Going to the east bay, san fran, this weekend and going to bring back some more goodies if i find some.

Good thing the wife didnt see any of my receipts from this trip now will she see them from next week$$$$$$$$$$$. Luckily i throw the receipts out and she really could care less.lol

What would cause me yo loose pe om that pocilopora and nothing else.

I have one in my tank that occationally it will do that for a day then slowly let polyps out. strange. Maybe it senses a chemistry swing in tank?

Looking nice! Do you have a tripod? If not, you may wish to invest in one for macro shots and use a remote shutter trigger or on-board timer to avoid vibrations...aka blurry shots.

yeah i use a tripod and a 10sec timer. i dont know why i get a halo around the tips of the corals but will have to mess with the camera more to figure it out, maybe a filter on the lens will help.

I think it may be my yellow tang that is causing the PE to suck in, i noticed today that the pocci and my stylo have little PE at the end of the day and i observed the yellow tang swimming super close to the stylo right before the PE went away.

here are some pics of the new stuff, only been in the tank for 4 hours.
