New LFS where Aquaworld used to be?

Was just conversing with someone interested in some of my stuff and he mentioned he was opening a new store in June where Aquaworld used to be...

Anybody hear about this?

yeah there is a sign in the window of aquaworld. It opens june 1st and will be called tropical fish. The sign read rare saltwater and freshwater fish, and corals from around the world. Hopefully it will turn out to be a good store as I live near by.

Unfortunatly sounds like the guy is kind of a jerk (from what i have heard, so this may not be completely true)
Appearantly, rather than buying the store for Aquaworld, he talked to the landlord, found out when they would leave, and waited for them to sell off everything and them rented out the place. IMO, doesnt sound too honest or just decent.

I haven't been to AquaWorld, but I hear it was largely freshwater. If so, I wouldn't fault them for wanting to just rent out the place rather than buy the store. Wouldn't make much business sense if they'd have to liquidate everything to go primarily reef, which seems to be their plan.

I haven't met the co-owner of the new store, but I'm guessing it's the same gentleman that 'snuck' in here to post several weeks ago. He seemed apologetic about his previous actions. I'm certainly willing to allow them a chance to earn my business.

Why is he a jerk?? If you want to buy a house/business, wouldn't you want to pay the lowest price??

for the record i have never had anything close to a bad experience with the guy!~) he's a smart guy i am sure he will make necessary adjustments as needed. you certainly can't win them all. also i've read recently that you do something wrong to someone and they tell 100 people and when you do something right they only mention it to 10. example would be the way the drama plays out in some threads ie "yourreef now closed mon." and the one from gaels regarding her daughter actually being a hero and performing cpr on an infant which got only a few replies. i hope the best for him i always want to encourage the expansion of reefkeeping!~)

Yeah I'm looking forward to a new LFS that's right around the block from me again.

(Johns is also right around to block too!!, I'm caught in the middle)

And for the record I would have brought in my own equipment for a new start up too.

When we get a house we plan to start breeding marine fish and annomes if we can.
Some WMC speakers really opened our eyes, and we already run 2 business, so why not do one we can enjoy more?
Right now we have NO room and we have to sneak tank goodies around our place now because we are not allowed to have ANY Aquariums here..

When we move we have big ambitions.

Congrats to the New LFS!!!

Unfortunately the mod deleted a previous thread where this was discussed. I am sure Marc Daniel has an opinion about the guy. Just from my memory:

1) He was doing a "group buy" on cleaner shrimps. The problem was that he was buying it wholesale and selling it for profit. He was caught.

2) He claimed that he had some extra live rock (from his personal collection) and needed to sell off some of them. I can't remember exactly how many pounds he claimed to have extra. But based on all the posts, he was selling a lot more. A bunch of us concluded that he was buying wholesale and reselling them at a profit. From what I heard, when you got to his place, he would pressure people into buying corals from him.

3) He was selling an RODI unit for some outrageous amount. Claimed that he was selling it at his cost. Turns out it was his father or father-in-law who he was buying from.

See any pattern of questionable business practice. I have no problem with someone selling things for a profit - but in this case, the person was lying about his motive. I don't think I will buying from him.

Oh yeah - in the deleted thread, he started going on about how he is going to try to keep an ethical store where he WON'T sell anything that cannot be successful kept. Just wants to make me puke. I wouldn't doubt it if the guy would sell you aptasia as limited edition anemone. It was kinda comical because some one knowledgeable (can't remember who) was challenging him on some of the species he claimed can't be kept in the tank.

I don't know why you all talk bad about this guy. In my opinion if you think its the best deal then buy it. So what if he makes a little profit for himself. No one force you to buy

To me I don't care if he buys from whole sale and make profit for himself as long as i can buy cleanner shrimp for cheap price than LPS, i will buy it.

It's make businese sense, before u buy that any businese ,u want to know the term of the lease,to do that u have to contact the landlord.i don't think u want to buy the businese that the landlord wouldn't renewed the lease unless u can convince the landlord u will be a better tenant by improving his property. To do that sometime is better to build from scratch then try to improve the current businese.anyway ,gl

Bettaman,

It wasn't the fact that he was making a profit that bugged me. It was the fact that he LIED about his business. The term group buy implies that the person is coordinating a purchase not to make a profit, but to try to lower the price for everyone. Granted, the price of his cleaner shrimp was cheap. But he was making a profit, and failed to disclosed that. It's like someone one collecting for a charity, and you find out that the charity was his own pocketbook. Same thing with the live rocks - he hid the fact that he was selling to make a profit. He just bought the rock, and turned around and sold it at a mark up. Once again - bold face lie.

This forum has occasional trading and selling member's personal reef-related items. However, he was clearly a business.

Once again - it wasn't that he was making a profit that is an issue. The issue to me was that he deceitful about what he was doing. What if every LFS came to this forum and spammed us with "sale" items. If he wants to run a legitimate business, then have some ethics behind it.

just try to calm down.

people make mistakes and sometimes don't really understand right from wrong....or have a different idea of whats right and wrong.

is withholding information or forggetting to mention somthing the same as a lie?

hopefully the guy has seen this and will clean up his act knowing what other people think of his actions.

"be a trustworthy person but be slow to trust anyone else" i always say.

That would fall right into the deffinition of a lie. and I don't think there was any way to "forgetting" about the profit being made.

I agree with you ,

the Term of Lie
A false statement deliberately presented as being true; a falsehood.
Something meant to deceive or give a wrong impression.

Now if he "forgot" then he didnt lie

BUT I doubt that someone doesnt forget to say "Oh im gonna make a could of extra 10 bucks on this little deal here."

So we can pretty much say its safe to assume that he lied about it.

Hes even commented on the whole issue in the deleted thread

Okay guys, sorry i started something. All i really wanted to say was that i had recieved several negative opinions regarding this guy. whether they were right or wrong, that is the impression i recieved.

I think everyone would of bought it anyways. He got what he wanted and everyone got what they wanted. Now everyone is mad because he got the better end of the stick.
