New lights

Interesting. I'd be interested in researching them a little more. For me, I don't see anything that would be more useful to me than what me RB Photon provides, which has proven itself to me.

However, come time that I upgrade my tank in the near future, I may consider one.

In my research they are cheaper, more LEDs, and look a lot better. They have external drivers similar to the razr and other top of the line fixtures so what you mount is sleek and light. They have a warranty similar to reefbreeders. I'm just a fan of having on fixture over the tank rather than two. So a sub 400 48" fixture appeals greatly.

I like the sleek look and that you can daisy chain them. But they do make a 48" photon as well. Mine is 32".

What are the prices on the LEDzeal?

290ish for 48"

I don't have prices on the smaller ones since I didn't ask.

Plus shipping. And the controller is separate I think 30 dollars.

Wow. That IS cheaper! Kinda worth the gamble at that price.
 
Not much of gamble. The link to the fmas thread many people have them already and love them. They seem to growing corals well. (I believe the guys username is gillguy has been posting updates on his tank with the new light)
 
I wish I knew about them a few months ago. lol

These are the types of things that are going to hurt expensive LEDs. People rant about chinese products all the time, but so far all 3 fixtures I have tried have worked great and with no issues as has my Jebao.
 
I've only had the. Chinese version of pretty much everything. And my reef is all and well. I don't think the bells and whistles warrant the price. It would cost me 1200+ to light my tank with name brand LEDs. Id be willing to do small gb of less 5 people if anyone wanted. I really want to pull trigger and order soon though.
 
Yeah i think I'm going for it. Gauging interest if anyone wants to order now. Want to split shipping as it's a bit pricey.
 
Looks good. Only thing I would question is the quality of led chips, but then for all we know fixtures like radio might use cheap bins as well :-) If they allow you to change layout a lot try to get a vood amount o royal blue and violet leds. These should be at almost 1 to 1 ratio. For example, my diy has 24 rb, 16 hyper violet, and 12 neutral white.


Also somewhat i portant how they dim leds. PWM would be the best for spectrum, although not as energy efficient as simply limiting the current. PWM basically blinks leds very fast off to 100% on and depending on timings things will look dark or bright. With that it is also possible to completely turn off the lights. Dmming by limiting the current that goes through led also works and even uses less power, but can shift color spectrum a bit and can only go so far down. 30 pecent or so is usually the lowest brightness it can get.
 
They seem to use the same LEDs found in reefbreeders, ocean revive, reef radiance and so on. Bridgelux 3w. Or for 70 more you can do all Crees. With the controller you get 8 time points per channel and the fixture will increase/decrease as needed to reach the set point for that time. You can costumize as much as you wish. I used that layout to mimic the max spect razr. The fixture on Matts tank, I like the color and growth he has been getting.
 
Bridgelux same as Cree have a number of different bins. So something like Royal Blue can have 50 different variations from same manufacturer and they can differ in actual wavelengths, defects, brightness etc. Cheapest ones would likely have more defects and not be as bright/efficient as more expensive bins.

So while you are not likely to have much control of this as it would be impossible for us to find out what is actually there, it is something to be aware of.

I think you are missing what Michael is talking about with respect to the quality. As in any manufacturing process, the first few runs will be much closer to spec than the later runs. From what was explained to me was that these LED mfg's will bin them separately and charge more money for those LEDs run near the beginning of the mfg run. The LEDs that were run near the end are sold off much cheaper. My guess is that ALL of the bargain LED panel mfg are using these "cheaper"/later run LEDs.

Again, there is a vast amount of these panels out there on the market and people are very happy with them so I would think you can buy with confidence. In the end, I think the weakest link in this entire process is the end user who is picking their own bulb layout which at this point also appears to be tougher to screw up than in years past.

I am in that very position trying to decide which lights to buy.
I've decided to scrap my MH/T5 set up, and was all set to order a pair of Photon 32's from Reef Breeders. But they don't have stock, and when asked when they would arrive, the answer has been they're coming from China. Sorry, but that's not acceptable to me. Once I decide to make a major purchase for my tank, I don't want to wait a month or more, and not be given accurate information.

Then I spoke with a good friend and serious reefer who said go with Radions. Good stock, great customer service, but expensive. Just shy of double the cost of the RB 32's....

BUT - considering I already have 2 MP40's, the ability to control both lights and power heads wirelessly through my computer seems like a big plus.....

Yes, RB sometimes may have issues with not having lights in stock (although I think they just got shipment in this Monday - my lights were part of that), but you will get them. So if waiting say a month is not an issue you can buy them.

Other reason I waited a bit longer than getting what they had in stock is because I got a bigger discount this way on the fixtures. I did buy 4 fixtures, but you can ask Logan to see if he can work out some sort of deal for you.

Quality wise both may be the same, but if something breaks it will probably be easier to get help with ReefBreeders, unless you can do it yourself. Replacing burnt out LED is pretty easy and everyone should be able to do it, drivers are easy to replace as well although may be a bit harder to locate correct parts. Ebay I am sure has all of it.
