I'm going to take the plunge and buy either a S150 or S200 with a controller and hanging kit.
Hopefully I'll like it and can save a chunk of change vs the Radions.
Worst case, I don't like it but will have a spare fixture in case I ever have problems with the high end fixtures I may ultimately end up with.

I'll let you know once I hear back from Ledzeal as to which fixture will do what I want.
We can sort out the rest of the details then.

Thanks,

I've been in touch with Kevin, and have put together my order.
Hopefully we can get a couple more people in to save on the shipping costs.

Here is what I'm ordering:

1 - S200 Fixture with 90* lenses, hanging kit, and back up remote, configured per attached layout: 1*258 USD
1 - Wired Controller: 1*55 USD
4 - 120* Lenses : 1 USD
2 - UV LED's : 3 USD
2 - RED LED's: 2USD

Total: 319USD

This is their 35" fixture, it will cover half of our tank. I'm leaving the other half with my MH/T5/Power Brite Deep Blue LED set up. This way I can do a side by side comparison and decide if the LED's are right for me.

Kinda excited to start tinkering with the tank again

Needless to say I'll post pictures once it's up and running

They're nice looking and the daisy chain option is sweet. You got any idea what kind of penetration they get? What optics do they come with? What's the coverage at 30" of water? I looked on their site but can't find any of that.

I'm going with 2 of the Malibu S200's for our 150. It's only 24" deep so I can't answer regarding the 30" depth. The first link in this thread takes you to a thread from the FMAS page. There seem to be some folks there that have been running these lights for a while. I decided to give these lights a try primarily due to what I read on that page. That and the fact that I'm buying enough lights to cover my whole tank for a bit over $600. Plus getting some extra optics and LED's to play around with the color and coverage.
Worst case I don't like them and I spend a small fortune on Radions and have these 2 for spares.....

Based on optics degree you can easily figure the coverage yourself with some geometry :)

Here's an article that may help you further - http://www.ledgroupbuy.com/choosing-the-right-optic/

Penetration? Same as any other LED fixture out there, all really depends on what current LED is running and what optic it has. With 90 degree optics you would be able to get decent par on the sand bed, but will possibly have to run them at 100%. Depends if you need 100 or 250 par that low.

From what I can see in the pictures they all have few clusters, smallest has 2. Two clusters would be decent for 24" of the length of the tank. For less shadows and better coverage you may want to go with two of those fixtures over 24x24 area, but 1 should work fine, you may just get some shadows here and there.

Another thing about coverage, with 90 degree optics you get best light about right under the fixture, it really drops off quite fast, so don't space them too far or have a single LED fixture over the tank that is much shorter.

Like this fixture isn't enough for 36" tank, while sides were lit pretty well, par difference between middle and the sides was quite big.

Don't waste your money on Radions ever :) They are only high end in price. And no, LEDs are not bad etc, just you can get same results from something much cheaper. I'm sure these fixtures will do better if you buy in same ratio as you would radions, i.e. 1 radion vs 1 small fixture from here.

With 60 degree options 30" should be no problem. Coverage depends on size, are you talking 30" wide or 30" above water?

This is quite a large exaggeration. When you buy these LED panels you are not just buying a bunch of LEDs. You are buying quality of material, assembly, customer service, etc. Also, with Radions you get the ability to marry your lights up wirelessly with your vortech powerheads. There are other ways of doing this through reef controllers and some programming however none of those options are done with as little effort as the radions. With the new reeflink, Ecotech has provided a controller that allows unlimited customization of both lights and powerheads individually or combined. This can be obtained with a controller but no way in the world could you do it in the amount of time it takes to do with Ecotech. A lot of people forget that their own time is worth money and spending 50 hours building a light system and programming it probably costs you more in the end than just buying an already finished and very polished out of the box product.

On top of all of that most people are not DIY savvy enough to do something like this to the level that Ecotech offers.

Having said all of that, I will never own and ecotech product brand new. I find their products are second to none in overall quality and final delivery of the product, however I am not willing to pay that price. I don't mind buying used hardware that is still working. In the end, I can see myself buying a set of the gen 1 radions down the road when I get the guts to take the LED plunge.
