New Livestock List Help

I just traded my 2 black percula clowns, 1 mandarin goby, and 2 coral frags for:

(1) 6" green carpet anemone that host a mated pair of gold striped maroon clowns. The female is about 5" and the male about 3. They seem to love their new home. I also have a royal gramma, gold coral banded shrimp, and a long spine urchin in there.

Any thought on new additions? I don't want to put anything in there that will disturb their mating, only encourage.

I lost a green chromis moving my rocks around to get the percs and mandarin out. So now I feel like I should replace the missing fish, plus replace the missing mandarin. But I don't want the same fish as before. Help please and pics are always helpful.

I would imagine that female maroon will own a 40 breeder. Maybe a jawfish or shrimp goby or something just very different from the clowns and probably a bottom dweller. Actually, the mandarin probably isn't such a bad option as they're generally ignored by their tank mates.

I was told that the mandarin wasn't a good idea due to the carpet anemone I have in the tank. I traded mine along with the 2 black percs for the mated pair and the anem.

You don't want any bottom dwelling fish at all as they WILL become lunch in a 40 breeder. This means no mandarins, blennies, gobies, dartfish etc. I know it sucks, but take it from me, a carpet anemone eats fish. lol Also, where do you have it placed in your tank? It would prefer to attach it's foot to the bottom pane of your tank and then you can move the sand back around it's foot. And no, the clowns will not keep fish 'out' when it comes to the anemone eating. And just out of curiosity, how do you know the maroon clowns are a true mated pair? Is this something you were told?

It is something that I was told by the kid I traded with. If they aren't a true mated pair, worst case scenario is I won't have any fun trying to raise the fry. But, the maroon clowns are really cool anyway. I traded for the anemone and the clowns. Not so much for the possibility for fry. That was just icing on the deal for me. If they mate and I see eggs I received one heck of a deal. If they don't the trade was probably even.

Do you know what type of "carpet" ?

If those are their true sizes, I would keep an eye on that "carpet" -- maroons can be very hard on anemones, more so when a pair. Wouldn't want them loving that anemone to death.

I do not know what type but I will be posting up pics tonight. Interesting theory on the loving it to death. That may be why it moved toward the back of the tank and was very retracted yesterday. I've been trying to figure it out.

Not to sound like a tool, but it isn't a theory, I have seen it myself happen.

It could just be moving because it is in a new tank, or it could be because of the clowns.

Does it at all look like the following? Is so, it is most likely an S. Haddoni.

It looks just like that one. But the one in your picture seems like it has a lot more green. Mine is green like that but it doesn't look that full of green. I'll send a picture to describe what I'm talking about.

Here are pictures of the anemone and clowns

For some reason, the carpet changes colors a little depending on how much the clowns mess with it. It changes from neon green to brownish like in the pictures.

So, what kind of carpet do I have?

Not 100% certain, but pretty sure that you have an S. Haddoni. I would keep a close eye on it, I wouldn't be surprised if that maroon started causing it issues. And if the other clowns starts to be hosted by it.....

Would like to see that anemone get at least twice as big before hosting clowns of that size.

Holy crap Batman...that clown is waaaay too big for that anemone. I'd seperate them and let the anemone 'fatten up' so to speak. Don't worry, seperating them won't harm either the clowns nor the anemone.
