Would I need actinic supplementation with the Iwasaki 15k?? I really like my hammer, GSP, torch, frogpawn, and crocea clam to glow.

They will flouresce without actinics, but the tank will not have a blue hue to it.

Interesting thread for sure...I'm thinking of going with a single one of these over the 30" cube I'm getting.....400watt 12K reeflux on Icecap :-)

OK....I need some help. I have a 210g that is 72*24*29. My canopy is 16" high. Would I be better of with the full size or mini's. Thanks for your help!

I am in the process of buying equipment for a standard 90g (48x18x24) mixed reef. I am planning on mostly LPS, with a few clams and SPS mixed in. From the reading I have done in this thread, it sounds like 2x250w mini's even at 16-18" off the water would be too much for anything but the clams and SPS. Should I go with 2x175w mini's instead? Or should I go with 2x250w but get a set of slightly "dimmer" reflectors?

Thanks for the help!

Go with the 250w and use the Lumen Bright reflectors and 12 or 14k bulbs. You will be happier with 250, more coral placement options and bulb choices.

If I do the 250w, should I be raising them 18-20" off the surface of the water?

16-18 inches off the water. This is the beauty of these skimmers. It will help control heat as well as tank access for maintanance and such.

Lil too much skimmer talk in other threads JR? :-P

Nope, never enough skimmer talk.:D I can't recommend these reflectors enough. They are the best things I have ever purchased for this hobby and my tank.

I just installed 5 on my 290
from what I read the Lumin Brights offer tighter and deeper penetration then the Lumenarcs. With only a 24" deep but 36" tall tank i needed the depth not width so I went with the Lumabrights

some pics of my installation here
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1320654

and a bit more information on the build here
http://www.dfwmas.org/Forums/viewtopic.php?t=36695&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

I've been running them for just a week. I installed them about 4" higher then my previous lights, plus, I'm not running my 400s right now, but will start kicking them in about an hour a day next week and extending the photo period on them to about 4 or 5 hours. My 250s run for 10 hours, heat has not been that bad or at least not any worse then it was.

Nice light rack psteeleb. I had to wipe the drool off my cheek. Nice tank too.

thanks JR

now if I can just figure a less expensive way to run them :)
I once told my wife keeping a reef tank would be less expensive then taking trips to go diving..... I think I lied

I have been emailing Mike about which reflector to get as well. My current setup is 4 x PFO Mini DE pendants but the SPS at the top are starting to shadow the colonies farther down. Wo I would like to increase the spread of the light so it goes past the top colonies.

My tank is viewable from 3 sides (both long sides and the front) It is 96"L, 32"H, 30"W. The rockwork is piled up in the center and down the length of the tank.
The widest part of the rock work at the sand level is 19".
I can attach the top of the reflector 18" from the water.
There is 6" Eurobracing all around the tank, so the "open water" area at the top of the tank is 18" wide by 84" long.
Would 4 of the DE mini pendants work for my setup? Or should I ditch my DE bulbs/Ballasts and get the larger pendants with SE bulbs. (I would prefer not to do this)
As well having the Mini pendants would allow me to get some T5 actinics in between the reflectors.
Thoughts?

I personally would ditch the DE bulb setup and get 4 SE style Lumenbright LG reflectors. This will allow for the most light distribution and a super punch of light into the tank, all the way to the bottom. Depending on what type of bulb you want to run you could just ditch those also, one less thing you have to maintain. IMO

I am purchasing the lumenbrights wtih 12K reflux. The tank is 6 foot long by 24 X 24. I will be starting up SPS. Just curious if 2 large 400K would work and spread enough? Would 3 250 MH be enough?

On a 6' tank, I would go with 3 LBs. I have 2 on a 5' tank and the ends doesnt get as much par.

I would go with 3 250s in LB minis.

Agreed - I'm getting great penetration with the 250's in 36" of water, 400's would be overkill IMO. With the focused light, 3 would get you good coverage, 2 would probably leave out the ends or center unless you placed them very high.
