There will always be other places to get these reflectors but I only know of one sponsor that took the time to test these reflectors when they first were distributed by coralvue. Plus, IMO Mike is the best of the best when it comes to customer service and advice.
I have no doubt, however I just wanted to make sure everyone knew there were other RC sponsors that also have these and also offer excellent service. Not taking anything away from Mike but also not taking anything away from the other great sponsors who have them as well.
Here are the connection shots of the socket to the ballast. I cut the socket line to form a 12" whip then placed butt connectors on the wires coming out of the ballast and the socket, one female one male.
Hey JR
Are you running the LB's 14.5 inches off the water from the bottom of the reflector or the bottom of the bulb?
Just ordered 2 LB mini's from Mike and I'll be building the hood this weekend.
I have 2 400w 12k Reeflux on Coralvue ballasts.
Tank is 30" deep 48"long (I know alot of light for a small tank its all SPS).
Do you have any suggestions on the best placement as far as height goes? Or did that height give you the best Par.
Oh yea' I've been in this hobby for years and I have to give it up to Mike defiantly on of the BEST!! Two Thumbs Way UP!!
my bulbs are 14.5 inches from the water surface. the bottom of the reflector is about 12inches. You might have to raise yours alittle more. I would build your canopy so that they can sit up to 18-20" high or so. This way you can lower and raise them to your liking. This will also allow for even more space for air to circulate in your canopy and less heat on your water.IMO Congrats on your purchase, you will be very happy with the results you will get out of these reflectors.
You probably will only run them at 16-18 inches off of the water with the 400watters. But it is always nice to have the extra room above just incase you need to raise them.
I run mine at 16+~ The only problem with setting them up high is (atleast for me) is the glare you get when sitting on the couch in front of the tank so I made this.
