umm i dont really have a build thread i have a put together thread! We purchased it used, but build the skinning for the stand, and the canopy. give me a sec i'm going to have to try to find it

cl2ysta1, looks like there is some shadowing in front of your Frogspawn. I am either going to get the LB's or the Lumenarc's but I'm concerned the LB's don't have enough spread as the LA III's. If i mount the bottom of the LB reflector 10" above the waters surface will I have a shadow underneath my center brace? I'm looking for a reflector set up where there will be no shadowing. I saw on Melev's Reef that he built a 90 gallon propagation tank for Dr. Mac and it used two LB's above the tank. The lighting spread for the LB doesn't look very good from the side shot. It looks like the light shoots straight down and not spreading out to cover the tank very well.

thats the whole purpose of the LB's, to shoot light down. Thats also why people raise them so high so there can be a bit more spread. If you're worried about even light distribution and dont have the height requirments, get the LA's. But if you want a true pump of light from your reflectors, get the LB's.....you wont be upset.

most people here are putting them 14-16" water to bulb. Mine personally are 10" but thats because I run 175's and the canopy was designed before I fully knew about these reflectors. I have done tests tho with PAR and raising my canopy to the 14" height and with my bulbs, where I"m at now works best for me. I'm also running the minis on a 55x24x24.

10 inches off the surface

What kind of ballasts are you using? The pic looks really dim, is it just a bad pic?

Coralvue ballasts. It is bad pic. They shine in person
I've run Reeflux 12k's on coralvue ballasts in Luminarcs and I will have to agree it's a bad pic because mine were very bright. I can only imagine what they look like in lumenbrights.

unfortuntely its hard to get pics of these. Always shows some dark areas and or super bright ones. Tank looks good tho. I was wondering if anyone had any numbers from the DE versions? A few people in my reef club are asking and I'd like to give them some info if anyone has it. Thanks.

I just got the DE pendants. I can't wait to get them in. The are no doors on the refelctor to install the bulbs, so I guess I have to take the thing apart to put the bulb in.

Are they going to have the mini's as a pendent also or just the large size? This was a great thread by the way lots of good info I was goign to go with the lumenarcs before reading this and I am sold on the lumenbrights.

Yes, the mini pendants are 16x16. Some sites list them as 14.5x14.5 for some reason, but mine are definitely 16x16. I think they are a bit larger than the raw SE reflectors because of the back shell all around the outside.

I think the raw reflector is 14.5X14.5 and with the shell is 16X16.

The reason we had decided to go with the LB's is
-because of how much less heat we would generate *since they can be so high off of the water*
-The ease of getting into the tank with them this high. I can't tell you how much I am glad that i have working space between the lights and tank. I never have a problem with smacking the reflectors.
-The par readings on these. If you go a few pages back there are some readings using both.

Also you meantioned a shadow. Yes there is. that is a 100 head of frogspawn that comes about 2 inches away from the front of the tank. I have the bulbs mounted 16" above the surface of the water. I think that even with a lumenarc reflector that I would have a shadow there. I'm not running any actinic supplement it is just 2x400 halides at the moment. There arent shadows anywhere else in the tank other than under my little arch in the middle. I really like these reflectors. I have an acrylic tank with clear bracing so I am not sure how this would look if I didn't. If you look at the one picture though with just one halide on it is covering about 2/3 of the tank spread wise. My tank is 4ft wide. It also seems to have no problem covering the 3ft depth. I left my back of my tank rock free so i do have some shadows on the back bottom, but I am not planning on having coral there. Even if i did i'm sure it would grow great!
