Almost all red gonodactylids from Tampa Bay are Neogonodactylus wennerae. On rare occasions, they ship a N. curacaoensis or N. torus that can be reddish.
it is a very bright red, as it is only 1" long it is hard to get a pic but it is a smasher.
i also got a larger like 2 1/2" or 3" one that is green with red highlights
how big should these get?
Dr.Roy,
Is the white stripe down the telson indicative of a g.chiragra? I hope so because I just noticed one on mine which Ive been wondering about.
Brian
No, the stripe across the anterior part of the telson extending from uropod to uropod is more often seen in species in the genus Gonodactylellus and in some Neogonodactylus. Most species that display it are small - under 5 cm.
