Hi there, I am getting my first marine tank, a 10 gallon for my peacock mantis shrimp that is on it's way from Indonesia. I work at an Aquarium store so i found one on a list and ordered it. I have had up to 23 freshwater tanks at a time abut have cut back to about 10 running and the rest empty til I build a house....

I am wondering, will aiptasia hurt my mantis? I kinda like them, pests and all. Just like dandelions are my favorite flower. is it ok to put a few in with him/her?

aiptasia will not hurt a mantis. lol, funny to hear you like aiptasia. I agree they actually dont look too bad, but Ive always been a bit more partial towards majano myself. too bad they dont play nice with other corals.

it wasnt your question, i know, but i hope you dont really expect an actual peacock mantis. unless you have some special situation going where the supplier actually knows how to ID a mantis, you will very likely not get an O. scyllarus if you ask for it. shrug, we'll see what happens right? and to add to that, a 10 gal is too small for a peacock. take a few pics when you get the critter; post them and we'll probably be able to ID it for you.

I know it may be another type, thats ok. the 10 gallon is til I get his custom tank built, I am leary of the smashing hands. My moms friend owns a plastic company and I am going to get him a custom plexi/lexan tank. Then I will feel safe. I just need something to house him in for a little bit. I am so excited to have him. I think they are the coolest creatures!
