New Mantis Owner - Peacock - Aquapod 12g OK?

I have been going through the forums looking for information regarding Peacock Mantis in 12g tanks. The consensus seems to be that a 20l or bigger is best for a peacock. Is this only for larger peacocks?

I currently have the following Nano set up at my office:
12g Aquapod
Crushed Live Rock instead of ceramic rings
Fuge in one of the chambers with mini light external
MJ900 with Hydor rotating
12lbs live rock - about 6-7 peices

Corals:
GSP
Finger Leather
Devils hand Leather
Misc. Zoos and Polyps
Hammer

Livestock:
True Perc Clown
CBB Shrimp

So here is the question:
If I remove the Clown and CBB and put them in my main tank can I use this at least temporarily for my 4" Peacock? I assume the peacock wont eat the corals but instead may move them around.

If this is ok for now, at what point should I make a new 20l+ tank?
Are the Aquapod stock lighting (27w PC) too much?

at that point its too big for the 12G aquapod, i used a 12G tank for a holding tank for a week untill i could get monte's 40G breeder tank ready, he will go through that 12G auqapod pretty easily if it wanted too,i would say get a 29G tank and 60 pounds of sand or 30 pounds of sand and a PVC burrow and it will be okay then, if you can only have it right away i would say as soon as you get it home it could only be a week or two at the most for it to be living in so start planning out a 29G minimum tank right away

Thanks Matty,

I am holding the peacock in my 20g Fuge for now. He has already collected all the various bits of live rock, burrowed into the DSB under a bigger rock, and made a home with a front door and back door.

The only bummer is that the fuge is plummed into my basement :( so I dont get to enjoy him upstairs.

Is it safe to assume i dont need 2lbs live rock per gallon since the only thing living int he tank is a mantis? Maybe 30 lbs?

in my 40G breeder i have maybe 15 pounds of rock in there, she is actually being moved to a 33 cube since i wont be able to keep the 40 anymore, anything just as long as it can burrow under it and feel secure is good

Just a thought. You may want to rethink a smasher at work and go for a ciliata (spearer). Smashers can drive co workers crazy their smashing

Good point with the clicking. fwiw I work at a place with a fair amount of computers going, and the aquapod's fans are fairly loud. However, if I cant keep the peacock in the aquapod then I could not keep it at work. I dont dare to have anything bigger than 12g @ work.

But ya the ckicking can be loud. I have some TBS mantis in my display tank at home and i can hear em roms away :)

peacocks are extremely loud compared to a wennerae...i have heard my peacock smashing shells while im listening to music across the hallway in my computer room

So are smithii. I had to take mine home.

P. Ciliata are incredibly cool and would fit that tank perfectly. I have one of mine in a 14 gallon oceanic with corals, snails anc crabs at work

Related to the noise factor.

I was hanging out on my back porch (A 3 level Victorian, here in San Francisco), where my neighbors smoke. I had just dropped snails and fiddlers in with the boys and girls of Casa del Mantis, and by the time I made it outside, someone had started to smash away.
My neighbor (Sherry) said to the other girl (Kim) 'See, there it goes again!' and they both looked at the overhanging lights.
I said 'What are you looking at?'. they replied that the bulbs keep popping, and they couldn't figure out which ones were popping.

:D

I explained that they were hearing my mantis shrimp, which they already knew about. Enlightenment dawned on them and they started laughing, saying 'I wondered why it happened even in the day, when the lights are all off.
Keep in mind, I have 11 mantis now, and 7-9 at any given time over the last 2 years. including 2 big peacocks. The other neighbors must be wondering what in the hell that noise is...

Hehehe...
