New mask

I just picked up a new mask and used tooth paste to clean the inside but I am still getting fogging. I have even added Anti fog to the lens and let it dry then rinsed it off.

Shall I use more toothpaste to clean? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks
Simon

It wouldn't hurt to hit the inside again w/ some toothpaste. What type of anti fog are you using? I've had good results with 500psi brand antifog. I can actually get about 3 dives out of one treatment with it.

You may even want to bring the toothpaste along with you just in case. I keep a trial size in my save a dive kit, and have used it more than once.

Thanks I will clean it again. I use the Trident mask defogger. Reeffreak where are you in FL? I will be down there end of the month.

I haven't used that brand defog before. If it continues to give you trouble, you might try the 500psi brand....it's really thick, basically like toothpaste....

I live in Atlantic Beach, It's one of the beaches along the coast of Jacksonville. Our diving here tends to be a little more advanced than other parts of the state. Our reefs/wrecks start at 10 miles out and go up to about 40 miles offshore, with depths ranging from 70-140' +.......Add in some decent current at times and it's a little more demanding than some of the near shore stuff down south. During the summer months though, visibility can be 80-100' horizontal and top to bottom :) And to make it even nicer, there are very few divers who dive locally.

Have fun in FL, I absolutely love living here......Second choice for me only to the Caribbean.....

simon - what type of toothpaste are you using? Make sure you use the paste type and not the gel type. Rub it in, let it sit over night, and then rinse it. You may need to do this a few times initially. The toothpaste is to get off the initial manufacturing residue. You only need to do this with new mask. Afterward, use a commerical defrogger or spit before each dive. If you want, you can also use a diluted solution of baby shampoo. Rub some on the inside of the mask, and then rinse it out.

honestly I don't post trying to be a smart @$$ but you are putting the anti fog on the inside of the mask right? I've seen it before...
I am not impressed with ANYTHING Trident makes, I personally use Johnson and Johnson No More Tears Baby Shampoo. good luck
