New Maxima Issues

So I have a derosa and a Crocia on my sand bed for years under LED's. I just added a small maxima clam. He is very skittish.

I don't know for sure if he would be happy with the others or do I need to blast him with light and put him high on the rocks?

Also, the past couple of days he is retracted. The fish swim very close to him. He has only been in there for a couple of weeks. But I noticed some fuzzy white stuff attached to his base off one side.

I don't know if that's his attachment glands reaching out or something else. Its my first maxima so like a new father I am nervous...

I would put them up higher, I have mine high up on rocks. especially since they are so small they are thirstier for light than the bigger ones

It looks like it's foot and byssal glands were torn off. Was he attached to someone before and pryed off. I would leave on the sand and not disturb it anymore. The fish may pick at it if it's dying. Does it open up fully?

It opened up fully in the bag on the way home.... But a could days in the tank and it was only about 50% open and would close if you looked at him... If he did not twitch he would slowly open. But any fish came near him and he closes...

I got him at a frag swap from "Pop Corals" so who knows what they did...

well he is a bit more extended today and yesterday... about where he was when I got him. about a 3rd open...

So all this time my small maxima has not attached. He is on the sand bed with the others at about 250 par. He is responsive to movement but never really opens up. When I braoadcast feed he cleares himself just like the other clams. he never moves at all so I never noticed he was not attached until I found him knocked over today. Dug him a grove in the sand and placed him. Should I move him up? Should I feed him more?

you can dig a flat rock under the sand bed, put him on top and fill in around him with sand, it will give him something to attach his foot to, and if the rock isn't big you can attach it elsewhere in the tank higher up once he gets adjusted.
