Hey everyone

My name is Allen and my wife is Jodi. New members just getting into saltwater tanks. We met some of you a little over a month back at Art of Aquaria. Those of you I haven't met yet we look forward to it.

I have started a 180 gallon build I'd love to show off and get some criticism. Here the link, check it out!

Welcome! What are the plans for the top of the tank? Will you leave it open or will you be constructing a matching hood? What made you pull the trigger on that particular lighting style?

I originally planned to make a matching top which may still happen but for now I'm going to leave it open. As far as the light, I've always been a fan of a hybrid style light. But in all honesty it's what I could afford for now. I picked up this fixture super cheap, even with all new bulbs I only have about 250 in it. I think the only other way I'd go would be led but trying to light a 6ft tank with led is $$$.

Truth.
new LED's are way overpriced but, if you can find last years models with not that many hours on them then they become worth it.

I would suggest keeping the open top if you are a tinkering kind of reefer. you will end up hating taking off the hood or not being able to get to all parts of the tank easily. The only hood I have ever seen that I thought was possibly not to much hassle was Pife's remote controlled hood that somehow electronically raises off the tank. If you put screen tops on your tank make sure they come off easily too... I wish I would have planned better for that on my 180. I did a lot better on my 75.

I just saw his setup the other day, it is sweet! If I ever do a hood I will likely be motorized like his.
