I found this information on bio rock in a macro algae forum post. Maybe we can apply this low voltage steel structure technology to a home aquarium and have similar results? Maybe more so with very large aquariums. Its worth a read. Or watch the video.

just seems like buying already-rock-rocks would be so much more cost effective and also look alot more natural

They are doing this in dubai to build reefs where there have never been reefs. Their goal is to build a world class dive destination.
