Just got a new 400x2 mh light with 4pc lights and some moon lights. How do I acclimate my corals I have it about 12 inchs above my tank and my tank is 30 inches deep. as soon as I turned it on my corals all hid.

drop your coral to the sand bed and slowly bring them up over a week also run your light in half day cycles to for a week or two depending how there taking it.

This is rarely doable when your corals are fused to the reef. You can do the photoperiod mod, or do the layered screen shroud. Just watch your corals closely, if they dont seem happy, its likely the light is too intense and just keep fiddling with one of the above techniques until theyre happy.

what is a photo period mod?

A cheap, easy, no-fail method is to use window screening, mentioned above. Go to Home Depot or some other local hardware store and buy enough window screening to make about 5 sheets as long/wide as your tank. Cut out the 5 sheets and lay them over your tank (you'll need to tape each one down with duct tape). Then, keep your new lighting at your current photoperiod and remove one screen every other day.

This way, you don't have to worry about setting your timers every day, etc., and screen is cheap.

By the way, what type of lighting was replaced?

Modify your photoperiod... Shorten the time the lights are on....
