New Mp40 question

Hi all,
I am picking up a new Mp40 tomorrow and am very excited. Replacing a hydor koralia that shocked the @&$# out of me. Anyhow, what kind of setting is best for a mixed reef tank? 36x24x24. Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated.

I bought mine for a 40 gallon breeder in hopes of eliminating the two other pumps. I would love to only have one pump in there, since a MP40 is overkill for a 40 it may just work.

reef crest and short pulse changes during the day. Which is one of the great things about the vortech. I like two pumps so that I don't have flow going in one direction. Tried only one pump originally but found that the corals on the opposite side of the tank where not getting the same flow as the ones across from the vortech so added another one.

My tank is peninsula style so I only have pumps on one end, obviously I have to weigh that in on coral placement.

Got mine yesterday and played around with it for a couple hours. Thing is a beast. Corals closed up right away, I'm assuming to get readjusted with the new flow. It's a little noisier than I thought it would be. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I bought mine used, and the flow from an MP40 in a 40 breeder is impressive. This thing is SOOOO loud. I have adjusted it and moved it a million times today and it still sounds like a motorcycle motor at lower speeds and I am at a loss on how to fix it. It is very annoying!

forgot to mention, I ordered a quiet drive upgrade today, I hope this helps, but I am not sure how it will eliminate the chatter which sounds to be vibration. It is only at a certain RPM

It may need bearings. I've not done them but I know some have. I had the pleasure of playing with a mp40 and it was not loud at all. you could hear it but it wasn't loud.

Do you have it adjusted for the thickness of your glass? If it's on the wrong "notch" they are much louder than they should be

If it's chattering/thumping then there is likely a problem with the wet side, either alignment or balance. If its whining like a jet then it's likely dry side bearings. Wet side is easiest fix. There is a ceramic bearing that can wear and become loose, check to see if the propeller will wiggle side to side at all, if so, that's likely your culprit.

Seems like it has settled in and stopped chattering but it is far from quiet. I can't wait to try the new driver.

Try a different setting for your spacer. I have 1/2" glass and I have mine set on the 1/4" setting I think. That's the only way I could get them to quiet down. Now I can't hear them at all and during sunrise and sun down I have both on 80% on constant mode for 22 minutes.
