New Nem question

I'm a father of a GORGEOUS GBTA, looks like that green one from divers den afew weeks ago. I did'nt plan this one though, it was aquired due to a mix up in a fish order. My other Gbta attached after tumbling around for acouple hours. This one has not attached 2 days later, although he has opened up. He just stands on the sand and stares at the light, not even considering finding a rock. Anyone else ever had this?

FWIW i just added a LTA a couple weeks ago, and he just hung out in the same spot and wouldnt attach either. He did this for nearly two weeks. He would eat, produce waste, acting totaly normal other than not attaching to anything, or even moving for that matter. So after talking with a few different people i cleared a spot in my CC bed and just guided him toward it, and within a day or two he has finally decided to latch on. So as i dont have much experience i wouldnt want to give any advice, i would simply say as long as hes eating etc, i wouldnt worry about it. He'll likey do it when hes ready. If not clear a spot and put him there and see what happens.

he has not eaten the piece of silverside, just holding it for acouple hours
It's only day two though, so we'll see

you way want to try something much smaller like mysis shrimp. mine seems to be able to handle them much better. There is another type of fish though that a few are using that are far less oily than silverside. If your not allergic to your anem stick your hand in there and see if he is still sticky. Sometimes when they get overly stressed they will not have that "velcro" type grip and he may just be having a hard time holding on to the silver side. i had mine lose a piece of silverside last night and hes real healthy and still seems to have a problem handling them sometimes. Mine can grab anything right off the bat, but when it comes to putting in his mouth he only uses 1 or 2 tenticles and strugles tohold on to the silverside. maybe your anem has the same problem. try some mysis shrimp and see how he does with them. they are a little hard to get the small shrimp down to them, i use a pair of Stainless steel tongs that you would use on a BBQ to deliver them to mine.c Also one other question are you adding any zoo plankton? i add about a cap full twice a week. I was told that it was very important to add that in addition to feeding. They absorb it through their body right out of the water, just add it to a high flow area of your tank. Youll find it in the refrigerater at your LFS.

hope this helps,

Paul

WOW!!

i would try mysis, if that dont work try squid or clam. soak that in selcon for about 30 minutes then feed to the nem. sometimes it takes awhile to find a food a nem likes.

ive never heard or seen it documented any were that nems absorb zooplankton through their skin, if that was the case why do they need a mouth or a digestive system???

also any chance its foot got injured?

They do not absorb zooplankton right out of the water. They are not filter feeders, they need real meaty food.
Bencozzy, you have never heard or seen it documented cause its not a fact. Its someones guess/comment. It doesnt happen, your excattly right, they wouldnt have a mouth or digestive system if they did.
Zooanthalae is what anemones use to take food from the light. But thats not what they live on alone and that is what takes light and turns it into food, like plants. But they need to be fed too.

He came from a good wholesaler in LA, his foot looks great (he attached to my front glass:( ) I use Zoe, and will try soaking some mysis and target feed him

He's very sticky
the silverside sat right on him, he just did'nt seem hungry
he's looking better, once he decides to face front, I'll get a good pic of him
my other gbta loves his silversides, even though he's been bleached for like 6 months (got him bleached) but won't come out into the light

It might just not recognize the silversides as food. Shimek has a great article on keeping BTA's and it says they kind of learn to eat the one thing that is most available and it takes a long time if ever for them to learn to eat new foods. Try mysis, bay scallops, cocktail shrimp, squid, clam, etc., until you find one it eats. It should be 1/4" or smaller pieces of whatever you feed or it may just regurgitate it later.

How about a picture of it for us? :) That's the price of advice around here ;)

as I stated, he is attached to the front glass, if you want a pic of his pretty pinkish foot I'll take one:)

wait, want a pick of my poor bleached bastard? or my new one?

Mh is off for afew more hours, so he's small, and the flash washes his colors out, but someday i'll get a nice front shot of him
His tenti's are neon greenish, with Hotpinkish/purple tips

this is his one tank buddy

yeah so it seems my "source" of info at my LFS is lets just say not even close to reality. As stated in my first response i new to the hobby, and have come the realization that this guy who fed me my info is simply full of .....

Came across a wonderful new location for all of my livestock.

im lucky enough to be only 25 mins from tropicorium. very cool place, and everyone there actually knows what they are talking about. they have a limited website, tropicorium.com. However they have on hand over 20,000lbs of live rock, propigate their own coral, and have over 50,000 gallons of all marine livestock. really an amazing place. if anyone is in the metro detroit area, or for that matter even within a few hours drive i would look them up. really worth the trip.

sorry for the dead wrong info, just trying to help. i will make sure i am more thorough before making any future statements. but for what its worth, as far as feeding it, i had the best luck with the mysis shrimp.

you gotta remember, alot of LFS employee's are on commission or will just tell you anything to make a sale in general

gotta find a good LFS and ignore the rest

your right on that one. my new place tropicorium that i found yesterday is awsome. the owner has been in several of the bif reed magazines, and is pictured in several adds for instant ocean and some of the other big name stuff. they are only open for retail to the public like 4 hours a day 6 days a week. they are actaully the suppliers for almost all the LFS in my area. their were people their today that had come from as faw away as virginia just to come check this place out. whats really nice is they have some rock that is fully cured that they have had for over 3 years for sale that is just amazing. the nicest rock ive seen anywhere. hope your nem starts acepting food for ya.
