New Octo HOB 800s look

It might be, they have a 1000 that is rated at 60 I think, it uses the Octopus pump though, but $100 cheaper than the 800s.

aquacave has them on had, and will be updateing the website soon. I'm sure you could purchase one over the phone.

damn, hob w/sicce psk2500 for $240???
that f'ing rocks!!!
uggg, but if only they had taken out that crappy siphon imput, that thing is lame.
but, there is room for media and heater in the last chamber though, and they moved the pump so it will always be submerged, so all in all it looks like a teriffic skimmer for the money!

I like the idea of having the pump out of the tank for aesthetic reasons, but how do you service/remove the pumps in these octopus skimmers?

I hope to have mine by the weekend. It is being shipped today or tomorrow.

Yes you can add the heater to some HOB skimmers. Some of the Octopus skimmers have an extra chamber to add media, heater or what ever.

EDIT: I just looked at the picture you posted. I assumed they were going to use the 100F body but this is a redesigned box. Hard to tell if the bubble chamber is larger or the entire skimmer is smaller. Oh well I will know soon.

That's why I like this skimmer, so no pump, heater in the display, and put a bag of carbon in there too. I have alos heard some using the chamber as a fuge.

i'd also ditch the supid looking surface overflow box like i did on my bh100f

Yes, they have the 1000 and 2000 ($149, $169) as well. I think there are some other models from last year with new pumps.
I just got off the phone, my 800S will be shipped tonight and will have it in 2 days. First thing I'm going to do is mesh that sucker. Can't wait to get rid of my Bak Pak.
Is there a reason you took the surface skimmer off? I was always under the assumption that that's where all the protein is at, one the surface, hence the surface skimmer.
All I can say they make a great skimmer at a very decent price.

I tried that mod on mine and got a little surface scum that I did not have before. So I ended up putting that stupid looking surface skimmer back on. It may look stupid but it does work I guess. Only pitfall I see is things get into the surface shimmer box and get sucked into the skimmer body. It is a PITA to get snails and fish out of there.

If you all decide to put media in the third chamber MAKE SURE the bag can not float up and block the discharge line. If it does it will flood. Been there and mopped the floor. That is my biggest complaint about this skimmer design.

To me it looks like the reaction chamber is bigger, look at the collection cup itself, and the intake smaller, overall footprint looks the same.
I'll be posting pic's when it arives.

You remove the collection cup and pull the pump out from the looks of it. One thing I did notice is that the power cord has to go underneith the devider seperating the return from the reaction. So it might take some skills at manuvering the cord under then out. We'll see.
