My tank is set up for this little guy just need to know how I should do it? Its dark in the box should i leave my light off and ease him in to it??
Thanks Ryan

I just droped his slipper butt in there and hes doing fine. Looked like he was sleeping for a bit. He just chilling on the glass for now.
Thanks Ryan

sweet! Id say get some pics up but I think the best thing to do for now is turn all the lights off and make sure no one goes to bother him by checking him out every five minutes (looking at you, lol). He'll be stressed out and probably needs some downtime.

yeah dude you totaly busted me on going down and checking on him every 5 minutes its been a 2year journey to get one of these. I went down and turned out all the lights for him. How do you know if they are stressed do they turn a certian color? I have some pic but i don't know how to post them.
Thanks Ryan

congrats on your new octo.
I had one years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I was fascinated by the way he would change colors and body texture when hunting.
Once, I went down to the beach and caught a bunch of sandcrabs on the shore and brought them home. When I put about a dozen in the octo tank, they buried themselves in the sand with only their antennae extended. Octo would go on the hunt, creeping along, changing colors and getting spiky texture when by some dead coral skelton. A snadcrab would get spooked and jet off out of the sand, and Octo would snake out an arm and snag him out of the water! Awesome!

yes i agree octos are amazing creatures and can change colours in the blink of an eye. more impressive imo is their capability to seemingly change their TEXTURE to match the environment. they are astounding in both appearance and behaviour.

a stressed octo probably will just make itself less apparent. that means hiding and or camouflaging itself. even if it does neither of these, you should still give these animals downtime after acclimation because they will be stressed and are quite fragile. also if you manage to freak it out, it may ink. then you got a brand new set of urgent problems to deal with.

lol don't worry about the 5minute checkup thing... we are all guilty and bad habits die hard. but still, it is a very bad habit and will only stress the thing out more. even if it does die (god forbid), half a day in the tank won't crash your tank (unless the thing is toxic).

I got mine as a hitchiker in Liverock I was trying to keep the mantis bristles pistols and whatever else alive so they went for a 30 minute drive in a rubbermaid container at 86 degrees outside may have been dry for 15 secs at the max ..didnt even know I had the SOB till after a month...
Wont eat shrimp only crabs and the fish I bought at the LFS local fish I caught he wont touch...
