Need advise on replacing my acrylic office tank. Trying to not spend too much- he he . Current tank is an acrylic ( 52 gallon hex) that is super scratched up, and impossible to make look good anymore. I get am direct sun into the tank. So, need to be able to clean with magnet each morning quickly. The canopy and stand are "childproofed" making the tank difficult to get into form the top.

Q) Do curved glass tanks( bowfronts or curved corner ) clean easily with magnet glass cleaners or are they a pain.

any ideas or comments welcome.

Maybe- have been thinking about that option. Tough to measure with the tank still up . Would need to figure the length from the corner to front panel 2 x 2 cube tank set up with one panel aimed away from the corner. Geometry required- hmm... So the hypotenuse of the triangle behind the tank 2 feet. That makes the short sides of the triangle= X. Then figure distance from the corner = Y. Y + an additional 2 feet = Z , distance the front of the tank will be from the corner . I think my stand will be Ok for that distance, but not sure about the 2 foot width at that distance. Need to measure.
 
existing stand = in a pentagram shape. From corner to each back edge = 26 inches along each wall , then 90 degrees from the wall 18 inches on each side with a front dimension just under 15 inches. obviously made for the existing acrylic tank.
 
I have a 175g bowfront and they are very easy to clean with magnet cleaners. Never had a problem.

Go to Graigslist. Always saltwater tanks for sale. CHEAP!!!!!
 
really Mark - That is good news. I am pretty sure I can fit a corner 43 gallon ( I think it is called a Euro style corner) with a curved front. Just worried about the curved glass front upkeep- as I will not be able to reach into it easily = childproofed design canopy.
 
Marineland also makes a 18 inch cube and some taller cube tanks (37 gallon maybe?).

I think Elmer's website has all of the tank dimensions.
 
I do not have any issues. Mine cleans up very quickly with the magnet. I even have a long handled blade that i use to clean down around the sand bed. It laso works great. Might have to take a few extra swipes compared to a straight glass nut none the less. it works.
 
Elmers does have all tank dimensions on their website. The 60 cube is actually exactly 24" at the corners of the trim. I love mine. There is also a cube tank that is 2'x2'xI think 18" high (i.e. 45 gallons).
 
Ya- trying to measure my existing stand - made for my hex acrylic, so the front has three sides= difficult to figure out which cube would fit on an angle for a corner situation. I may be able to get a 45 cube to fit = looking into that now. Emailed both Elmer's and Aquaworld for prices. Apparently Elmers does not drill or make any overflows. I definitely can fit a 44 pentagram- but the bottom glass is made from tempered glass( unless I special order)- awaiting price and time frame on that. So stock 44 pentagram is not drillable for a bottom draining overflow and I don't think I have any room to put the overflow/ pipes on the sides/back of the tank.

Acer I have been to Elmers numerous times and they can order the 45 cube straight from marineland with the overflow and holes predrilled. Here are the prices.

The 45g has the same footprint as the 60g. I think the 60g is 6 inches taller. There is a 18x18x18 that should fit in your space. I think it a 30g though.

Both of these tanks have overflows that would have the hole drilled on the side from the factory.
 
OK- additional measurements to those math wizards. Tell me what I can fit on this stand. I do not what to tuck a cube into the corner with a corner of the tank pointing out to the waiting room- but if it will fit on an angle so one panel is parallel to the short front panel that would be great.

From the corner along each wall = 26 inches long. Then 18 inch panels each side at 90 degrees off away from the wall , Then connect these panels in a front panel to make a pentagram. The distance from the corner to the middle of the short front panel is 30 inches.
 
I have a 24 gallon Current USA Cardiff in my office that I love. A picture is attached. It sits right on my desk and is easy to get to and clean. I have a 150 watt SunPod hanging over it with a 20K halide bulb. The timer runs on for 2 hours off for 1 hour through the day to help keep the heat down plus it is suspended.

The tank is glass and not acrylic. Are you set on acrylic? I think the glass is much easier to keep clean and no scratches. I have a small Mag-Float that is easy to use and keep the glass clean.

I keep one gallon jugs of pre-mix salt water in my office and doing water changes is supper easy. I change one gallon twice a week. I just put an empty jug in the tank to fill it up and as I pull it out I pour in the fresh jug. I don’t even turn the filter off.

The integrated filter is easy to keep clean as long as you clean the pads couple of times a week. The filter has an okay skimmer but I clean it a couple of times a week as well. Also has two little water bottles for water top-off which is nice for when I’m on travel. I have made a few minor modifications to the filter system.

I have had this one set up for about 6 months now and after the initial break in, it has been very easy to maintain. I use the 16oz bottles of Seachem additives which works nice. Each dose is one capful twice a week. Iodide is half a cap once a week.

I sometimes think about just keeping this one and getting rid of my big tanks (but not going to happen).

Might not be what you are looking for but worth looking at.

Brett the new tank will be glass- have had enough of acrylic. Cloaker - I do not want to spend for the 54 or 90 corner tanks- budget = less than $250 - and not sure they would fit on the existing stand ( see above). I would like to get over a 35 gallon tank - the smaller the tank the harder it is to keep the chemistry good. Tank must be less than 24 inches tall as the stand is already tall and with the childproofed canopy (14 inches high) - even with my height (6'3.5") and arm length standing on a step stool I cannot reach the bottom with the 24 inch high tank I have now. Now you can see why I am asking for help- May have problem solved = custom glass tank made by local- I am looking into it. Pentagram shape with a internal overflow in the back corner ( drilled in the bottom)- 2- 25 inches long panels from the back corner, 16-18 inches on the other 3 panels, 22 inches high. Can anybody figure out that works out as far as the gallons? I think about a 40 gallons?

Nice nano Brett- looks great - but I cannot have a free hanging light= kids in the waiting room = liability, liability..... Hence the 14 inch tall canopy bolted into the walls hiding a 250 HQI Aquamedics pendent.

Budget is pretty stiff due to the fact that I think I will be moving forward with the 180 build in May - YEAH!!!!!

OK Update- have someone making me a pentagram tank out of 1/2 inch glass - making to existing stand and canopy dimensions. Need help drilling the bottom for the overflow=1.5 inch to sump and 1 inch for a return. The tank will be about 46 gallons. Anybody have drill bits this size. I may have a 1 inch- but do not have a 1.5 inch.
 
If you're having the tank built it may be worth it to drill before siliconing together. Just in case...lol And I think you mean Pentagon? A "pentagram" tank would be amazing though =p
