New Orange Plate

I just bought an 2.5 inch orange plate for 50 bucks. Does that seem like a fair price? I recently did a search here on RC and noticed that 90 percent of the posts were about ones not doing well. Are these difficult to keep? I suppose that any one with a sick coral is going to post questions pretty quickly but it just seemed like a lot.

I posted a pic of mine a few minutes into the tank and it looks good. I am having a hard time getting a pic to show the true color that I see. It is a vibrant orange and under actinics it is truely amazing.

Any suggestions on care and or pictures of yours would be appreciated.

Buddy of mine had a toxic green one. It was super healthy but sadly the glass on his tank cracked and he was not able to save it. Your looks very inflated which is a good thing! Do you have any intentions of tricking it into reproducing? I am willing to be it will color up some as well!

How do you trick it into reproducing? I have heard dead ones have sprouted and formed babies but that is it.
It is pretty colorful now , it is just that the picture does not show it at all.

I have overheard conversations in my favorite LFS of people purposefully damaging the skeleton/flesh. I guess the flesh "drips" or "melts" off the now parent colony to form a new one. Again just a topic I overhead and did not get every detail of how to do it or if its doable.

Live aquaria sells them "starting at $49.99" but when you click on it they are $109.99 before shipping. The last one I saw at a LFS was less than 1 inch and was $75. So I would say you got a great deal. The orange one I bought was on sale for $30 from over $100 at the LFS because it was severly damaged. It was a long battle that I lost but after it died it put out babies about 6-10 months later and I now have 8+ orange plates (one is over an inch already) plus a couple other ones that have grown large.
I think they are easy to keep. They are hungry and always accept food. One of my favorite corals in my tank. Good luck with yours.

Yeah.............. I think I will hold off on that one!
Looks good the way it is , would not want to screw that up.

Love to see some pics of yours.
