New pairings!!!

I wanted to wait and post this after they were out of QT and in the display for at least a week.....

Clarkii.... Well my big mamma (Martha) clarkii finally has a new mate. Her first mate seems to have turned female on us after 5 nests. I introduced another male for her but he died of brook (I didn't QT properly.) She survived the brook and I picked up another juvie/male for her. He's been out of QT and in the tank with her for about a week now. At first he was picked on by her as well as the Coral Beauty and Yellow Tang. After he found the LTA he was fairly safe from his tankmates and knew what to do to keep big mamma happy almost immediately! He's tiny compared to her. He's been hanging out in the LTA and sleeping under its oral disk. She's been spending most of her time in the 3 BTAs on the other side of the tank. This morning he was in the front BTA and she was hanging out in the one right behind him. It was great to see. She's been keeping him under her wing all day taking very good care of him.

Since she lost her last partner she's been very docile and the coral beauty and tang have been pushing her around a bit.

Well, since he moved in to her anemones today they've been all over the tank showing their dominance of the tank. It's great to see her having a bit more confidence again!!!!!

Hopefully he'll stay healthy and they will pair up for good.

It's after lights out here so I'll post pics in the AM.

Melanopus....

I've had a very small melanopus with great color but a residual second stripe for about 4 or 5 months now. He was living in the small mantis partition of my 20L and I have a pair of pink skunks on the larger side. Well, the pinks died of brook (I think from a contaminated net as it happened within a couple days of my clarkii loss)

I picked up a larger, but still juvie, melanopus and when I took it out of QT I put it directly into the larger partition of the 20L and moved the smaller melanopus at the same time. They have been best buddies since going in. There is no doubt who is in charge! She gets the nice hairy mushrooms on the big rock and he mostly hangs out with the green mushroom attached to the back glass of the tank. He does sneak in the hairy mushrooms sometimes but only at her discretion. They've made it about 2 weeks since QT so I'm pretty comfortable that they are going to make it so I thought I'd post it here.

As with the clarkii it's after their lights out so pics will come tomorrow.

The pictures are terrible but I had to get some out today!

Here is the new little clarkii. As you can tell she's keeping him in line and protecting him. There is still a little chasing in the new anemone but he submits pretty quickly and she is happy with that. The little guy doesn't have an aura, that's a coral beauty in the background.

Here are the melanopus, even harder to get a good picture and the camera decided to focus on the corals in the foreground. She isn't usually clamped.
