New PIC of tank

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Sorry for the slight fuzzy pics...I'll use a tripod next time.

Clam has been with me for 3 years. I got him at about 6-7" long by shell measurement. I'm sure the shell is about 3 times that now. The good news is its growth appears to have slowed down somewhat.

Most of my sps colonies were grown from frags or very small colonies and I strived for a tank with a few prized large colonies . Therefore I tend not to frag my colonies unless they get too large for their own good. In my tank, I notice the limiting size to be about 12" across. After that, shading or restricted water flow become a problem and I end up chopping the piece up before it starts to die.

Very very nice:)

I really like the aquascaping and the look of the grown out colonies....very natural.

aurora, how long have you been dosing food-grade MgCl? Is this the same as Nigori?
Either way, where do you get it?

I've been doing that for about 2 years now. It's actually called NIGARI. Here's where I get my 50lb bag.

I've used both the coarse and refined type. The refined one mixed clearer and I'm currently using that. The coarse type look like it came straight out of the salt ponds and the refined one look like your table salt. They are supposedly made from drying out natural sea water. What's left after table salt precipitated is nigari and it's mostly MgCl with some MgSO4 in it...hopefully in the right proportion but I don't see why it shouldn't be.

Thanks for the info. Im definately considereing this. Seems like it makes a lot more sense than other supplements. :)

Nice clam. Wow.

Btw, you can get magnesium that is safe for your tank from here.

I just bought a 50 pound bag for about 35 bucks shipped. I don't know how it compares to the other stuff mentioned here, but Randy said this stuff was fine as it is from the dead sea.
