new picasso trigger 1 1/2in.

They are very aggressive as they mature (from what I've read anyway). I chose tankmates accordingly. Nine damsels, a gold striped maroon clown, comet and a rescued blue hippo tang.

Hippo Tangs are very shy and passive...they are not aggressive in the least...

that looks like my little guy! such a cool fish. iam not getting rid of this one. do you have a bursa or a niger with streamers and red teeth? iam thinking of getting a small niger.

I dont have a niger but I do have 1 of every Rhinecanthus trigger, including, Rhinecanthus verrucosus- bursa, in my big tank...I listed the trigs i have on my "130 x 36 x 36 incoming" thread...

Apparently no one told mine that. I had no intentions of owning one. Some one had one in a 55 with some severe HLLE. They were gonna take to a lfs and I said I'd put it in my 180 for a while, that's how I ended up with it.

Sorry OP I didn't intend to hijack your thread.

ive just started reading that thread. your tank is amazing! your triggers are absolutely beautiful ! gl with them all

i will . iam going to try to take a few more pictures of him. iam really thinking about a niger in the future. i think its time for that upgrade.

u think it would be ok to introduce a 1" picasso into my 90 gallon which currently houses a 2 1/2" mappa puffer and a 2 1/2" scribbled angel? these 3 fish would stay here until the end of 2013.... just has to be that way.... much bigger upgrade after that. just worried a little 1" guy might get beat up

Are they really very aggressive when mature? Will he have to be housed as a solitary individual?

depends on the individual...some are very mellow, others can be quite aggressive...get very small and keep it well fed...

well i got a 2.5 inch one and he hates the world.... not really sure hes biting but he charges other fish and makes snapping noises

My favorite fish as well rescued 1 from a 6 gallon with a pair of clowns and an anemone. Anemone didn't make it in the move and wiped out the tank except for the trigger and the next day I had a 90 gallon set up for just the trigger

Mine is aggressive as well when introducing new fish for a couple days. Might have something to do with the size of the qt tank... Mine is territorial of his rock cave.. It's funny that the only one he let's in is a niger trigger and they sleep 2 " from each other

When I lived in Guam, my son and I would catch humu's (and other marine fish) with a very small hook and a small piece of shrmip. When I lived in Guam, I had a few in my tank at different times. Definitely from my experience, the most peaceful trigger. The larger ones were even good tankmates to other fish. We had a mid-size and small in the tank with no issues. It was a nice catch, keep for a while, and change out for another humu. Never had an issue with the humu trigger.

U think hes goin to be aggressive just for the first few days? So far I've put him in twice for only a few hours each time. It is only a 30 gal QT. I think I'm gonna QT him in his own 10 gal tank and add him into the 90 gal DT as the last fish. U think this will work?

I just would hate to try and catch him in the DT if I doesn't work out. I'd have to move all that LR around.

Yes I think it's got to do with the size of the qt.. The aggression from mine being the first fish in the tank didn't last more than 24 hrs a day was never to serious. At one point I had all those fish I listed in a 90 g

Thanks rossco,

I'm gonna give that a try. The 90 gal is where I'll try him. Working on getting a 180... I think I can keep those guys in there for a couple months but any longer and it's gonna be ugly. Even the 180 is a temp home for the mappa and duss. I'm Lookin for a used tank i can use for about a year.

yeah you will need it..ive seen mappa puffers get very aggressive. personally id be more worried about him in the future than the picasso. ive had my picasso for 3 years and he has grown maybe 1.5"-2" larger than when i got him. he is fed VERY well daily too... very slow grower and will more than likely stay be the smallest fish in the tank..ive never had a problem getting mine out of the tank as he has a rock he sleeps inside of so i remove the rock and i get both my triggers out at the same time, hopefully you will have the same luck i have had with them.

i would love to see pics of all these guys too
