New pics of falcons

Thanks Cubman.....I really love these birds and Falconry too ! I'll be sure to post some pics of my falcon as training progresses !

UH_OH....nice shots! #1 is nice for feather detail but #2 shot is awesome! Great pose on the bird, very nice DOF, good sharpness, and I like how it makes you wonder what the raptor is looking at. Maybe just a pinch more of space on the right side of the pic (the direction it is staring). Oh, and try for a little more color in the background if at all possible (often not I know!). The whole photo kind of has a neutral tone to it and I think the raptor would "pop" out a bit more if there was some color in the back to separate the two.

Overall a really awesome shot! Keep them coming!!!

Oh, and sorry if I C&C'd a little too much.

VR.......here's a close up of Cookie !

.......and is this what you had in mind regarding the contrasting background !!!

and here's an action shot...but I don't like the way it turned out ! I wish I would have gotten in tighter on it !!

Yeah, much better on that contrasting background. And I like that action shot...maybe crop it a little tighter in PS and see if you like it more that way. It's a really cool shot.

Thanks VR I appreciate the good words. I hope to get out and get some autumn shots this weekend. The trees around here are reallly starting to show off their Fall wardrobe !

Egrets and herons are often confused for one another. You likely have 4-5 species in your area. The great blue heron can be identified by its gray body with black head plumes, yellow bills, long fluffy neck, reddish legs, and dark or black feet (not shown). Egrets have their own identifying marks but (at least in my area) they are almost always white.

Juvenile Great Blue Herons are also white, change to their grayish blue color as they mature.

I know the little blue herons start out white. I think the Great blues have a white belly and grey back (at least the ones I've seen), but I don't know just how young the birds I have observed were..
