New pieces to my collection coming this tues

It wasn't illegal to collect from there, it was illegal to export to the US. But now they're being imported legally with permits.

I believe you need CITS right to be able to import them here..

And sorry no reflux, as I have 8x54 TEK T'5's

I would question the legality of Aussie imports. I cant be 100% sure, but Australia is pretty reluctant to issue any permits. If I am wrong please correct me. The only 100% legal duncans that are available are from ORA (that I know of). They had some type of special permit from the gov. at least that is what my ORA sales lady tells me when I bought one from them. BTW it is a gorgeous green and grows like a weed!

Going back to the first statement. I am not certain about the import situation but being pretty involved in importing, nothing has popped up on the radar. So if you know for sure, let me know!

thanks

Thanks for the imput Tyler, yeah I believe its the one that has a greenish tint... I was looking for one that had blue in it... I know that there are about 5 different colors... In time I will get all 5

Your wrong :)

I highly suggest you talk to some people in the know then, as they are legal. Give Eric @ SDC a call, he'll fill you in. They been coming into the US legally now for several months. About the amount of time you've been devoting to the move ;)

Sweet, so I can get a colony for $60 instead of a single head.

I highly doubt it. No Aussie item has ever really dropped much in price. The freight rate only goes up :( When Aussies ship, the tide goes out (they ship with a lot of water = really costly freight). Besides, the CITES quotas are low, and only a few Aussies can ship.

wooh, luckly I went home prior to lunch, just beat FEDEX by 1/2 hour, got my new collection in.

Will take pics when the duncan opens up... the 2 other corals are in the lugols dip as I type this.

:D

Unfortunately our camera sucks and dosn't do MACRO shots.. so pics don't do justice and the DUNCAN isn't fully open but does have nice hint of greenish hue to the middle and the tentacles are lavender to purple...

The other corals did not show good either.. NO flash was used..

MIAMI OCRHID and FIRESIDE ACRO.

delsol650: nice corals. I can give you a few tips about your photos, I think you are either:
1. trying to take a picture too close to the coral (tryinig to achieve macro when your minimum focal distance is not going to help anymore)
2. The focus isn't hitting the correct subject, which may be a result of the above.

Pull back a bit further and try again =)

I got both the miami orchid and fireside as well from LA a month ago, they're both doing great.

hope yours do really well too!

I tried going farther only to blur... or if I do get good resolution its not detailed... We only have a sony powershot 5.0 megapixel...

Have they fully colored up for you ?

The Duncan open up half way and ate a jumbo krill last night as the atinics only came on

I have the LA duncan and it is way different from Matt's duncan at reefready.net. The polyps of the LA duncan are 5 times as big (2" across when plump and happy) and very colorful IMHO. Matt's are nice, just a completely different look. Here is a funky shot of mine through the top of the water at a bit of an angle but you get the idea. Compare it to Matt's, the one's at Roesmarine wworld, etc. just different varieties.
I think Matt's $35 is a deal to start off, the price may go up a bit, this polyp from LiveAquaria was $69.99, very well worth it, it already has two babies in 3 weeks. Why not get both:D

Time of import (duration stateside) tends to make them more colorful. Matt's, Roe's, etc are all fresh imports that have only been in the states for a few weeks. LA's have been here for a few months. Serders and ORA's have been here for years.

I plan to get different vatiations in the next couple of months
( colors/origin )..

BTW.. where is the best place to put this guy in.. right now he is in the front lowest part of the tank... get very good indirect flow from the SEIO 1500. but as he acclimates to light and water chemistry... where should I place him...? Gresh / Slowjmn any input ???????
