About 7 months later

I have a TurboFlotor Multi SL Hang-On Protein Skimmer By AquaMedic and powerheads and about 75 lbs of live rock and the sand bed is about 3". There is no sump. The lights are a T5HO with 3 bulbs: 1 pink(freshwater), 1 white(freshwater), 1 blue(marine) and the other side had a 4 bulb T5HO unit with 2 blue (marine) and 2 white (freshwater) but I just replaced it with a LED fixture. The lights are on for about 10 hours. The macros are prolifera caulerpa, Blue ocho, violet dreams, red bush hayi (red dictyota), gracilaria, dragons breath (halimenia). The fastest growing are the red dicyota and the ocho. I prune the dicyota every couple weeks and every couple months I take the rocks out and use fishing line to tie the ocho to the rock, otherwise it lifts up and impedes the fishes swimming area. I currently have a dogface puffer and a green bird wrasse, a large anemone hermit crab and I feed mysis daily, and sometimes other seafood.

For some reason I cant see the pics!!....i have a 100gall reef ready tank that my corals are going in and the 25tall I currently have up will become a macro/seahorse tank....jus want to get ideas...currently only have like 5 diff. Macros in a in-tank refugium

Your dogface doesn't eat any of your macroalge? I try to put some in with mine and he'll eat it overnight! Your tank's gorgeous.

Resurrecting an old thread from last year but I think worth it for us new wannabe algae growers.

I did get a reply from pitmindi, said that the tank was not at its best at the moment, but hoped to make some improvements in the future. So we get to enjoy the tank the way it was for now. But I'm sure that we will see some more beautiful pics sometime.

pitmindi did say that the macro seahorse tank still looks great. Maybe we could get some pictures of the seahorse tank.

Hi. My tank looked great until spring. i'm not sure exactly what happened. One problem I continue to have is red cyno that covers the ocho and inhibits its growth. I'm not sure if my lighting is too much or too little. I have a T5 light with 3 bulbs on one side plus a slender LED strip and a reef marineland LED on the other side. Neither side is doing well but it was great for a year. I have a 7" fat puffer, a 7" bird wrasse, a juvenile angel and a juvenile yellow angel. Do I feed too much? Maybe but the fish like it. If so the plants should be growing like crazy with any extra nutrients. Instead I battle algae. Any suggestions.
My seahorse tank still looks great and it had compact lighting.
